3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jmuhops (666) - Winchester, Virginia, USA - JUN 4, 2006
Pours copper with a two-finger white head. Grass, grapefruit, lemon, and pine in the aroma. All of the hops shine through nicely. Unlike a lot of IPAs I’ve had, this one is hoppy start to finish--bitter, piney, and a tad fruity. The finish is dry and grassy. Keep far away if you like malt flavors, ’cause there ain’t none here. Hopheads, on the other hand, can die after a bottle of this stuff and really not miss out on anything else of importance.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BeerandBlues2 (6125) - Lone Tree, Colorado, USA - JUN 3, 2006
12-oz. bottle from Naven. Pours amber and copper with a foamy, off-white head with sticky lacing. Aroma is fruity floral and pine hops, grapefruit and malt (grain). Heavy, biting bitterness and acidic hop juice, rind, slightly sweet fruitiness. Medium bodied and fizzy, crisp and dry palate.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 kramer (3458) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 3, 2006
12 oz bottle, via fordest. Pours a dark copper with a slight yeast sediment haze under a nice fluffy one inch off-white head. Nice lacing remained. Lots of citrusy and piney hops in the nose with a little bready malt. This is certainly as advertised, a West Coast IPA. Lots of bitterness up front masks any malt that may be there. For me, even a little too much bitter and not enough hoppiness. Finish is a little dusty. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft fine carbonation. Not quite creamy in texture, yet not watery either. Overall, a West Coast bitter hop bomb that’s sure to please the serious hop heads out there, but I thought it lacked any semblance of balance.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 cbkschubert (2751) - Cochise Co., Arizona, USA - JUN 1, 2006
Pours a clear amber color with a nice head that lasts. Good carbonation. Lots of floral, citrus hop aroma. Flavor is also big time citrus and floral hops. Medium body. A very good everyday IPA.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 DocLock (5972) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 31, 2006
Another great IPA sent by Foolish Mortal. This one pours copper with a lot of carbonation and a 2-finger creamy off-white head. Aroma of big fruity piney hops, tropical fruit, caramel malt. The flavor is piney hoppy, with tropical fruit, citrus, and a caramel malt base that backs up and balances the hops nicely. Medium body with a complex and well balanced palate.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 winegarner (220) - san diego, California, USA - MAY 30, 2006
I thought this was one of the better american IPA’s I’ve had to date. Very well balanced with just the right amount of malty sweetness and body to compete for the stage with the massive amount of hops used. Also the hop additions seem to be held back for later in th boil giving the beer a smoother bitterness and a lot of hop flavor and aroma.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bu11zeye (10164) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - MAY 20, 2006
(Bottle) Pours a clear copper body with a large rocky off-white head with good retention. Bountiful aroma of citrus that lingers. Good balance of hops and malt in the flavor with a crisp, bitter finish.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 hopscotch (7535) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 13, 2006
Bottle... Clear, orange ale with a small, frothy, off-white head. Good retention. Earthy, fruity aroma delivers tons of grapefruit with lighter notes of wood and fuzzy fruit. No semblance of balance in the flavor. Pulls up just short of being tongue numbingly bitter. A tad salty. Lengthy, harshly bitter finish. Winds up dry. A hophead’s wet dream!
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 nolankowal (917) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 10, 2006
Damn! I was expecting your average IPA, but this is outstanding! Pours a bright copper with a thick, fluffy, light tan head...great retention. Potent aroma of citrus, pine and caramel malt...super fresh floral aroma overall. The flavor is the caramel malt in the front but once it hits the back...POW...grapefruit and pine all the way though the lingering finish. Malty in front and over the tounge with a huge bitter element in the back. It’s not a hop punch, it’s a hop kick in the nuts. Awesom IPA that borders on being a IIPA.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Papsoe (22983) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAY 10, 2006
(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a clear amber with a handsome, creamy, off-white head. Marked citrusy nose - grapefruit and pine needles. Medium-bodied and extremely dry. Distinct hoppiness in the finish. 300406
