4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottled. Hazy pale bronze colour, average head. Striking aroma of lychee and bread. Massive amounts of hops supported by soft bready malt. Fresh and extrovert. Despite itís perfect, shiny surface there is lots of structure underneath - which is what separates it from the pack of similar beers- Grapefruity resiny bitterness. A rarely seen combination of excellence both in mouthfeel and aroma!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured into a nonic. Dark orange in color with a 2-finger beige head. Nice retention, plenty of sticky lacing. Lots of sediment.
Aroma primarily consists of pungent hops, with raw pineapple, mango, and citrus. Signature Columbus hop aroma.
In the mouth, the hops depart from tropical fruit and instead manifest as quite leafy and bitter. Tobacco, pine, and grass are present, and the malt is but a toasty afterthought.
Finish is oily, hoppy, bitter, and everlasting, and hence, not particularly dry. Medium body with lively carbonation.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz into a snifter. Pours a light-copper color with minimal head. Aroma comes out quickly from the glass and is mostly citrus, not overpowered by hops. Aroma is also a bit sweet, with maybe some brown sugar and vanilla. Flavor is pure hops, quite bitter, and lacking the sweetness of some other west coast IPAís. Also seems to lack some complexity in terms of malt, just leaves the bitter hop aftertaste that lasts a good long time and nothing else. Overall, a qualty IPA but is missing something that would make it great.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from bottle a hazy orange with a light off-whtie tight foam head. Looks as if crushed hop flakes are floating. Big aromas of piney, citrusey hops. The flavor starts with a small amount of caramel malt sweetness but is quickly over-taken by a gratefruit tart bitterness and a piney resin. There is a nice balance if you are a fan of uber hoppiness. Mouthfeel is a smooth creaminess that fills the mouth with a slight acidity from a the high carbonation. Good beer that goes well with food.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Amber body with significant (protein?) floaties, tight whitish head, nice PNW hop nose with some sweet notes. Crisp, hoppy, clean, balanced with malt, solid bitterness. A winner.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Which Brew. Hazy golden orange body with thin head. Aroma is grassy hops, ligth malt. Flavor is citrus hops, very tangy, light sweet malty feel but with a slight alcohol tanginess that was a little rough at times.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Whoa, this beer is damn near chunky - I usually only see floaties this big in belgian ales - and, oh yea, she smells like San Diego all right - hugely hopped and citrusy, with loads of earthy simcoe goodness and mouth-watering cascade (they pretty much use all of my favorite hops in this one besides amarillo) - as the aroma suggest, this is one hoppy freakiní beer - however, there isnít much else happening here - the dry, tongue curling hop bitterness isnít tempered by anything - at the outset, some bready malt seems to try to assert itself, but by the finish, this is like chewing on raw hops - thankfully, I love me some hops, particularly these hops, but this still needs something more.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Pours a clear golden-orange with a medium head. Aroma is fruity hops with a slight citrus characteristic as well. Taste is the same with some slight caramel malt sweetness right at the end. Finishes with a sharp hop bitterness and no detectable alcohol....Very enjoyable.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2009 12oz bottle. Copper-amber withsome haze and a creamy beige head. Caramel and citrus and pine aroma. Pretty hoppy, with lots of grapefruit, and a lasting bitterness in the finish, but nice caramel and brady malts with enough sweetness to really balance it out. Full and oily body with smooth carbonation. Really nice IPA--everything is in balance and well done.(8,4,8,4,17)
Rerate: the crushing bitterness just doesnít do it for me anymore, now that I have been exposed to the possibilities of the lower-IBU, higher aroma-hopped takes on the style. Still has a nice hop punch in the aroma, but it really isnít exceptional, and the balance is just too off, even though it has a huge caramel malt for some balance. Still tasty, just not exceptional.
