Editorís Note: If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash West Coast IPA (2014 -).

This West Coast-Style India Pale Ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2009 The simcoe citrus and grapefruit flavor make it different, but as enjoyable, as some of the best IPAís Iíve had (stone, two-hearted) etc. If finishes very crisp and refreshing, Everything I want from this style and more. Rerated due to the over-the-top hoppiness. Not the most balanced IPA, but thatís why I love it.

Brassy amber body beneath a thick white head. Aroma of floral and citrus hops with traces of caramel sweetness. The hops assault the tonge with their bitterness without any help from the caramel to reduce the effect. Bitterness -- in a good way -- is the hallmark of this brew. If itís perhaps one note, that is one helluva note.

Poured a hazy copper amber color with a nice thick foamy head. The aroma of hops was easily detected. There was a strong hop bit that rolled into a nice bitter finish that lasted. There was a subtle sweetness that came through the flavor as the beer warmed slightly. This was an excellent IPA, just as good as some Imperial or double IPAs. Excellent beer!!!!!!!

Bottled. Pours out in a hazy amber colour topped with a rich lasting white foam. Big sweaty lychee hop aroma with touches of blood oranges and pine-needles. Hop aromatic and bitter flavour of grapefruit, blood oranges, pine-needles and grass. Smooth mouthfeel. Long bitter of grapefruit and lychee with a subtle sweetness from peaches. Probably one of the best IPAís Iíve sampled to date...just perfect... Light years better than their DIPA.

From bottle... poured beautiful cloudy copper. Had some sediment. Aroma was initially hoppy and earthy, but also had a slight scent of armpit sweat.Tasty, very bitter. Has bite from the moment it hits the tongue to the moment it hits the throat. Very nice... one of the most satisfying palates. Iíve had better IPAs (this one was mainly disappointing on aroma and slightly flavor), but I throw down a sixer of these any summer evening.

Copper colored beneath a frothy white head. Aroma is full of fresh hops, notes of grapefruit and orange peel. Soft on the palate with nice citrusy hop flavors. Bitter without being overpowering.

In the glass it lies amber orange with a coarse off white head. The aroma is saturated by hoppy notes. Pine, grapefruit, fresh red berries, and a nice sweet malty caramel base. This sensation becomes even more apparent in the mouth. Loads of aromatic American hops, slight toasted notes and a balancing sweetness from the malt. All brought to life by a generous amount of carbonation and a body befitting the style.

Tap. Pours a clear golden-orange with a medium head. Aroma is fruity hops with a slight citrus characteristic as well. Taste is the same with some slight caramel malt sweetness right at the end. Finishes with a sharp hop bitterness and no detectable alcohol....Very enjoyable.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2009 12oz bottle. Copper-amber withsome haze and a creamy beige head. Caramel and citrus and pine aroma. Pretty hoppy, with lots of grapefruit, and a lasting bitterness in the finish, but nice caramel and brady malts with enough sweetness to really balance it out. Full and oily body with smooth carbonation. Really nice IPA--everything is in balance and well done.(8,4,8,4,17)

Rerate: the crushing bitterness just doesnít do it for me anymore, now that I have been exposed to the possibilities of the lower-IBU, higher aroma-hopped takes on the style. Still has a nice hop punch in the aroma, but it really isnít exceptional, and the balance is just too off, even though it has a huge caramel malt for some balance. Still tasty, just not exceptional.
