COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editorís Note: If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash West Coast IPA (2014 -).

This West Coast-Style India Pale Ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma.

Poured from bottle a hazy orange with a light off-whtie tight foam head. Looks as if crushed hop flakes are floating. Big aromas of piney, citrusey hops. The flavor starts with a small amount of caramel malt sweetness but is quickly over-taken by a gratefruit tart bitterness and a piney resin. There is a nice balance if you are a fan of uber hoppiness. Mouthfeel is a smooth creaminess that fills the mouth with a slight acidity from a the high carbonation. Good beer that goes well with food.

Bottled. Hazy pale bronze colour, average head. Striking aroma of lychee and bread. Massive amounts of hops supported by soft bready malt. Fresh and extrovert. Despite itís perfect, shiny surface there is lots of structure underneath - which is what separates it from the pack of similar beers- Grapefruity resiny bitterness. A rarely seen combination of excellence both in mouthfeel and aroma!

Poured into a nonic. Dark orange in color with a 2-finger beige head. Nice retention, plenty of sticky lacing. Lots of sediment. Aroma primarily consists of pungent hops, with raw pineapple, mango, and citrus. Signature Columbus hop aroma. In the mouth, the hops depart from tropical fruit and instead manifest as quite leafy and bitter. Tobacco, pine, and grass are present, and the malt is but a toasty afterthought. Finish is oily, hoppy, bitter, and everlasting, and hence, not particularly dry. Medium body with lively carbonation.

Objectively speaking: Tasty Californian IPA that hits the spot.
I like: Perfumey and very aromatic. Not too bitter. Good hop balance and surprisingly complex in that department (pine, zesty citrus, clean fruits). Fruity, juicy palate. Fresh all around. Fair sweetness, but well-balanced by the hops resins and soft tannins - no agressive crystal character.
I dislike: Not much, itís not reinventing the wheel, but it is straight-on what one looks for in an American IPA.

Tasting at ōlbaren 2008.03.11 - Thanks to Faroeviking for choosing and sharing this one as my #3000 on Ratebeer! Itís orange-golden and the aroma is nice and fruity hoppy with loads of citrus, pine and caramel. The flavour has a nice bitterness with notes of citrus, mostly grapefruit, pine, fruit and a pleasant caramel sweetness, that brings a nice balance to the overall impression. Itís a nice IPA.

Pours bright gold into a shaker. Fluffy white head with good retention leaves spot lacing as it slowly recedes to skim surface. Grapefruit and resin aromas. Clean and crisp with well-balanced malt upfront and a lasting citrus, pine and resin finish.

Aroma is a hops explosion of dried fruit and flowers, pine and a metallic background. Nice malty mid-palate with a clean herbal finish.

Bottle 12 fl oz. Pours pale copper with a small off-white head. The aroma is just amazing, a cascade of pure citrus. Flavor of citrus and hops with a nice bitterness in the end. The citrus and bitterness lingers. This is a superb IPA.

Bottle bought @ ōlbaren (also Mariaís rating # 3000). Pours a nice pale orange colour. Nice sweet pine, flower fruity aroma. Good mouthfeel. The flavour is sweet and quite fruity with a good hoppiness, malt, good bitterness and slight bit of grains. Dry fruity finish. Nice IPA!

12 fl oz bottle, thanks to faeroeviking. Pours hazy orange with a lacing off-white head. Hoppy fruity to floral with a dense caramel malt base. Pine flavour, woody and dry. Caramel malt and a solid spiced hops flavour on top. Floral lingering finish.
