COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s Note: If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash West Coast IPA (2014 -).

This West Coast-Style India Pale Ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma.

Nice, slightly cloudy copper color, frothy lasting head. Oh the nose! Huge hop aroma with pine and citrus - nose runs the gamut. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Nice lemon/grapefruit hop flavor. Just enough sweet maltiness to balance. Very nicely done.

Huge citrus grapefruit. Beer pours an orange brown color with a creamy head. Flavor is initially grapefruit followed by alot of piney resin. Not alot of malt backbone, maybe a little vanilla flavor but not too much at all. Not hard to drink. Finishes somewhat dry and resiny on the palate. I had with some ahi and it accompanied the wasabi nicely. A good example of the West Coast style.

Bottled. Hazy amber coloured with a medium sized off-white head. Well balanced with notes of malt, caramel, hops, pine, grass, citrus and a nice dry finish.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2008 Big floral pine and citrus nose with just a very slight metallic note. Big and full mouthfeel that is very astringent. Nice lingering oily hop finish.

12 oz bottle; nose of ivy smelling hops; I have picked this aroma up in several IPAs, but don’t know which hop causes it. Hazy copper with a small beige head; flavor of hop bitterness from the medium body lasting well into the finish. Excellent!

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2009 Bottle - Draft A very bitter finish on this one - sorta grassy....hazy orangey/amber color beer with off-white head. very dry hoppy finish. Not necessarily an IPA I would go out of my way to recommend if you’re in the SD area... now i laugh at this old rating, this IPA is the shit.

Big thanx goes to axilla for this one. Pours a hazy orange with a slightly tanned head. Smells of grapefruit and hops. Quite dry and bitter. Tastes of malts and loads of hops. The beer has a slight, nice pilsner quality. Typical US hops profile... yum. Medium to full bodied.Long piney and grapefruity finish. Very nice.

This was a good IPA. I would try this again but more local offerings (HI.P.A., Nugget Nectar) are cheaper and fresher.

Great stuff here, really great IPA. Delicious aroma and hop flavor to match. Not quite up to the 90 minute standard, but still a can’t-miss IPA.
