COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s Note: If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash West Coast IPA (2014 -).

This West Coast-Style India Pale Ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma.

Undated 22 oz bottle (7.3% ABV) pours a hazy orange with billowy white head that lasts a while and leaves good lacing. Aroma is strong with citrus hops, a bit of pine, and some bready biscuits. Taste is bitter at start and finish with enough sweetness in the middle to keep this one from being simple. Body is medium with average carbonation. Mouthfeel is sticky. I’m so glad I found this in an out-of-the way store, and will go back to but up the rest of their discounted yet still fresh-tasting stock.

Transfer From BA review on 4-27-12 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a hazy orange-copper color with a huge billowy white head. The head had large carbonation bubbles entrapped within. It faded very slowly to give a fair amount of lacing. Smell – A good helping of hop aroma. While mainly citrus in nature there were aromas of some earthy and pine notes. In the background of the smell there is a light biscuit aroma as well. Taste – The flavors follow the nose quite well. Up front there are nice citrus hop flavors, largely grapefruit in nature, with a good biscuit base. The hop flavors actually lighten in the middle leaving a window for a light citrus sweetness to come into play. More toward the end some hoppiness comes back. The grapefruit hop makes a resurgence and this time is mixed with pine and some earthy flavors leaving a pleasing middle of the ground hop flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – A very creamy body with a lower level of carbonation. The creaminess really allows the hop flavors to sit on the tongue. Very nice for the style and flavors. Overall – Nice flavors and a great mouthfeel make for one very nice drinking brew.

Pours clear amber with a low white head. Aromas of peach, apricot, resin, grapefruit, caramel. Taste is peach, apricot, caramel, grapefruit, pine. Mouthfeel is somewhat sprightly with medium carbonation, slightly coarse.

Considering I can get Founders or a few other IPAs for cheaper than this, I do not believe I will be buying it. Solid IPA. Smell was of slight citrus. Taste is pine and citrus. Good hop bitterness at the end. On IPA standards it is definitely not the most bitter, but it ranks higher than some of the more mass produced IPAs that are springing up. Glad I tried it, but I can get comparable IPAs in 6 packs for the same price as the 4 pack. Nothing unique enough to push this one higher - just a solid IPA.

On draft. Darker amber color with almost no head. Grapefruit aroma. Pine flavor overpowers the tropical fruit. Very smooth though. Good, although not my favorite flavor for an IPA.

From Bottle Shop, drank at home. Amber with minimal white watery head. Smells of malt and icy hop, piney and lightly musty. Tastes very West Coast IPA, deeply bitter piney hop with a bit of malt and a crisp slick body. Nothing too special - I feel like I've tasted many iterations of this beer before - but very good nonetheless.

Bottle from Bottle Shop at home. Translucent copper pour. Bit cloudy - maybe not that fresh. Aroma is spicy citrus and pine hops. Taste is similar - big and very hoppy bitter at first. Lasting bitterness. Not bad but had higher expectations - maybe an older bottle.

19th March 2014, sat in the sun on the terrace of San Diego’s Fish Market Bar. Decent if a little citrusy IPA. Poured an orange hued amber with an off-white covering. Mixed hop nose with the aforementioned citrus notes leading the way. Bitter taste with a citrus bite, the malts taking a back seat throughout. Very typical of many beers I drank while in Southern California to be honest.

Not a big head. Good taste. Similar to pale ale. I would definitely order this again. Perfect with dinner. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
