Editor’s Note: If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash West Coast IPA (2014 -).

This West Coast-Style India Pale Ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2013 Poured from a bomber. Cloudy, copper, off-white head that’s gone quick. Lots of different hops in here (a good thing), citrus, pine, etc. but still a small malt backbone at the finish - uniquely green flash. Got to like the bitter IPAs to enjoy - which I do. A medium-full bodied IPA.

Served on-tap at The Brewhouse and again at Al’s of Hampden.

A - Pours hazy copper orange with a small half finger tall white head leaving light rings of lace down the entire glass.

S - Smells of pungent citric hops, fresh cut pine, grapefruit, lightly toasted caramel malt, and some light alcohol burn. A touch sweet with plenty of hops. The definition of a west coast IPA.

T - Starts off with lots of citric hop bitterness slowly giving way to a mix of light caramel malt sweetness, pine resin, grapefruit, and some light alcohol burn. The finish is pretty dry with lots of hop bitterness, lingering on the pallet for some time.

M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Dry, hoppy, feel with a touch of sweetness creeping in at the very end of each sip. A slight alcohol burn creeps in on every sip as it warms to room temperature.

O - Still one of my favorite west coast IPA’s but not one I could drink daily. It is just too big of a beer for that but when I am looking for an intense hop bomb this is the first beer I look for.

I think this beer missed the West Coast IPA boat. I was struck by yeasty estery flavours (realizing that it is a bottle conditioned beer I poured accordingly). No real pounced grapefruit aroma just a middle of the road hoppy beer. Very dissatisfied for the $9 price tag/bottle

From the slow pour I got a thick creamy off white head of foam. It is long lasting, dense and makes thick sticky lace rings on the glass. This head sits on top of a very cloudy orange amber body with thick super fine yeast sediment. I get a firm fruity, citrusy and pine like hop presence in the nose. The hop aromatics dominate over a sweet malty base. This one has a tasty deep dank hop explosion on the tongue. The hop flavor notes goes from an intense citrus pith/rind to a heavy leafy herbal to an intense piney/spruce like character and back again. The malt adds some supporting sweetness in the beginning with some bready and yeast like notes. I am also picking up some peach like stone fruit notes with maybe even a slight hint of maraschino cherry in the middle. At the finish hop flavor takes over and coats the plate with heavy citrus and piney bitterness.
