3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 tokyogoat (1503) - San Diego, USA - FEB 7, 2012
i was warned by the bartender that most people were not liking this beer. i figured i’d give it a shot anyway. pour was fairly dark and on par with what i’d expect from a winter warmer. taste was nothing like i was expecting, not a witner warmer like i had thought, a dark fruit and caramel infused bitter bomb. mild herbal and floral notes with an aggressive bitter finish. kind of beer you have to taste over and over to really get whats going on. a cool and unique beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 peteinSD (630) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 2, 2012
Tap @ brewery. Dark but clear amber pour with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is light pine, char, caramel, roasted malt, and subtle spice on the finish. Taste is a heavy roasted malt/char character with some pine, hop bitterness, and a sweet, nearly medicinal caramel taste. Noticeable hop bitterness on the finish. Nice, unique beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 SDalkoholic (1535) - Chula Vista, California, USA - JAN 14, 2012
On tap @ Toronado SD: Poured a dark brown liquid into a snifter glass with almost no formation of head. Aroma is to faint and weak to pick up on other than a touch of dark fruit. The flavor is semi sweet with a taste of dark roast malts that also boast a taste of fig, raisin, and an unripe plum. A really different beer recipe that has me confused as to what style of beer this actually is. Finish is a somewhat astringent though with an aftertaste of sweat or metal.

Flavors are a bit too sweet for my taste, malt forward, brown sugar, cardamom and lightly herbal/grassy. Medium to slightly sticky body, moderate carbonation.
