4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Beaufighter (2) - Leamington Spa, ENGLAND - MAY 2, 2012 does not count
One of the best beers I have enjoyed over many years of exploration. If you are on a session, avoid it like the plague, but if you wish to spend time savouring a superb real ale, then this is definitely one to try. Rich, malty with a complex flavour that clings to the palate and seems to last forever. Not for the girly or bland ale drinker, but a lip-smacker if ever there was one.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 kermis (971) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - APR 9, 2012
Bottle shared at home. Dark pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of chocolate, over-ripe fruit and slight peat. Sweet coffee flavor a little smoke. Thick and oily with alcohol warmth in the finish.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Fin (5749) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 28, 2012
Cask, gravity at Merton Winter Beer Festival, 17th & 18th February 2012 Incredibly drinkable for the abv, smooth with some good coffee notes. The alcohol shows but it really doesn’t suggest that this is 10.5%. Smooth with some creamy vanilla, coffee is light and not too pushy. Most enjoyable stout and deservedly popular. 4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 justm (164) - Essex, ENGLAND - FEB 25, 2012
Bottle at home. Pours a dark ruby red almost a meaty gravy colour with the thinnest of beige heads around the edge of the glass. Smokey peaty dark fruit aromas with a hint of vanilla leap from the glass. Rich and unctuous over the palate with a little oilyness. There is an astringent smokiness with a roasty, malty, fruity taste full of dark fruit, thin coffee and caramelised meat juice flavours that continue to rise to a rousing raisin finish. With so many deep richness and complexity, this beer is ideally sipped on a cold winters evening by a roaring fire with the the light from the flames reflecting off the glass. Delicious.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bobinlondon (1179) - Harrow, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2012
Gravity cask at the Merton BF 2012. Deep ruby brown with a loose bubbles tan head. Plenty of alcohol but lacking roastiness or the heavy hopping rate that this style is renowned for. A pleasent winter tipple nonetheless.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 FatPhil (6210) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - FEB 15, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 15, 2012 Cask (CWAF2012, Thursday)
Quoth Anna: Very dark brown. Super sweet - my teeth hurt. Nice roast in the finish, but far too sweet.
Rerate: Cask (CWAF2012, Saturday)
Now slightly less sweet. Full palate. Slightly alcoholic aroma, but that’s not surprising considering - it’s well within the bounds of that you’d expect for 10.5%

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Stephanos (867) - NORTHERN IRELAND - JAN 9, 2012
Dark ruby-black with creamy tan head that soon collapses to a lacing rich nose raspberry, vanilla, rasins, sandalwood, treacle. Very full mouthfeel with sweet robust malts, dried fruit, a touch of leather and a long warming finish with tobacco and milk chocolate and a last minute alcohol kick. Very nice!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (4100) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 28, 2011
Gravity cask at the Wandsworth Halloween Festival 2011. Pours brown-ruby with a soft, beige head. Caramel, dark malt and light chocolate nose. Very sweet flavor with a great smoke character. Light bacon notes, cured ham, sugar, alcohol. Full bodied with fine carbonation and light boozy sting. Warm finish, mild smoke, dark malts, toasted sugar, subtle dark fruits, light roast. Pretty damn good. Goes quite well with the blues man that just started his set.
