Ethereal (2417) - Los Angeles, California, USA - MAY 2, 2010
Cask at the Pure Groove Ale Festival, Farringdon, 26th April 2010. Apparently a festival special brewed for this event. Very dark brown with a line of off-white head. Strong aroma of vinuous, stewed fruits, alcohol and sugary jam too - obviously the plums in the cask have done their job. There’s a slight burnt note too. Heavy palate means it can’t be rushed - it’s definitely a proper barley wine in terms of density and that it must be drunk like a wine! The alcohol numbs your tongue if you keep it in your mouth but not before you pick up an impressive mix of caramel, plum, treacle and red wine grapes. Very enjoyable.
