The Gone Fishing E.S.B.or “gone missing” as they call it in our pub, is a strong, deep amber coloured Ale, fruity and malty very drinkable for it’s strength. A very popular brew in the Triangle Tavern.

(Dregs of Keith’s eye-wateringly expensive Dad’s Day 750ml swingtop). Soupy orange with a fine slim head. Agricultural aroma with earthy yeast, sesame, Weetabix, orange-accented hop and matchbox impressions. Nutty with peanut and sesame notes beneath robust orangey hop and rustic yeastiness; Weetabix again. Slightly drying finish softening into creaminess on the swallow. Think I’ve missed out on the finer nuances of this one.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol May 2012. Ruddy amber in colour with a slight, off-white head. Caramel, plenty of berry fruit, cereal malts and a decent bitter finish. Good.

Bottle. Dark amber with a thin head. Aromas are biscuit and weetabix with fudge and hints of pear. Nutty with soft spices. Flavours are nutty and woody with sweet toffee. Lemon with herbal, spicy pine. Earthy, fruity and dry on the finish. A good malty bitter.

Tasted this in the Bell Inn, Carlton Colville in June 2002. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear mahogany in colour with light russet tints around the edges and a thin off white head. Strong malt in the vinous aroma. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Mixed malts give a rich maltloaf base with sweet notes of black plums and maple syrup. Spicy prickle of hop resins add a dry note to the short aftertaste. Finish is silky smooth and dry with vinous port notes long in intensity. One of my favourites from the portfolio. Well recommended.

Cask (gravity) - The Fat Cat Brewery Tap/The Cider Shed, Norwich. Loose & fine off-white head, clear copper-amber body. A robust fruity, juicy ESB with distinct tangy red apple & earthy notes. Medium body, soft palate texture and a medium length bitterness with a fruity, biscuity aftertaste.
