Swing top bottle. Golden and clear. Medium body which is malty with some sweetness but not enough to overpower. This could have been brewed on the West Coast of the USA. A big compliment for a big beer.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 FatPhil (6210) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 27, 2012
Cask (CWAF2012, Fri)
Sweet and spicy, definitely a little christmassy. Excellent full smooth palate. Rich in the sweet malts, and the christmassiness has subsided, it’s just a tanginess rather than a spiciness. Huge bitter hoppy bite in the finish. Good one.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 29, 2011
Tasted this cracking barley wine at the Paisley Beer Festival in May 2008. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear pale honey in colour with a loose open white head. A superb aroma of melted butterscotch and creme brulee, long in intensity. Silky smooth mouthfeel and no lacing - but who cares! Pale malt complex gives strong sweet flavours of butterscotch, burnt creme brulee, dates, maple syrup and vanilla. Spicy note of hop resins fade rather quickly in the brief aftertaste. Finish is warming with sweet sherry notes wafting off in alcoholic vapours, leaving a dry spicy note of nutmeg. A cracking barley wine and highly recommended.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Leighton (4100) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 6, 2011
Bottle at Nate’s Massive Birthday Kernel Piss-Up. Pours clear gold with some sediment and a big, white head. Toast, light caramel, some booze and banana in the aroma. Lightly aged malts in the flavor, more toffee, subtle alcohol, toasty sugar, faint leafy bitterness. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish, full on malty sweetness, not too much bitterness, some toffee and fruits. Very nice beer.

Tasty - a little thin for the abv but a strong and not overly hoppy barley wine. Elegant rather than in your face.
