From summer of ’06 - Was not overly impressed with this. Almost had a musty grape nose, with some sour woody notes lingering as well. Flavor does not match the nose at all, with some sugary sweet malt and not a lot of complexity.

"Meh," I muttered to myself as I sipped this less-than-flavorful 12-oz pour. ’Dragon,’ it would seem, is an overly-sexy name for this not-so-great Saison. The body was a deep murky reddish brown. Aroma and palate were dominated by alcohol. Some pit fruits, medium body. Not-so-lively palate. While I admire the first Asheville effort at this style, I’ll stick to the Stout pints thanks.

Dark red-brown, pithy tan head. Somewhat muted aroma, but what’s there is loaded with fruit. Grapey, woody, lightly metallic, tart, some aspirin, fairly sweet. Finishes out woody and sweet. Medium to medium heavy mouth. Not much CO2. Not sure who’s going to love this...

Draught at brew pub. Pours hazy red with a small white head in my sampler glass. The aroma is very sweet raisin, plum, spice, and caramel. The flavor is ridiculously sticky sweet caramel and fruit, much more aggressive than the other Jack of the Wood beers, and all the better for it.

draught. Pours a cloudy blood red with a fading white head. Aroma is sweet of raspberries, slight nutmeg, and a bit of earth. This is pretty sweet stuff with tons of malt and berry notes, but it is balanced with some brighter twig and clove aspects. Caramel and grapes come out in the finish. Pretty good take on this style, especially for a little brewpub in the hills, but perhaps not my cup of tea, or ale as the case may be.
