UPDATED: DEC 11, 2006 Tasted 08/12/2006. 500ml bottle from Moore Wilson, Wellington. Pours a bright chestnut brown, ruby-hued and a light-tan creamy head on top. Looks hugely inviting and then the head rapidly disappears. Ground pale ale malt on the nose at fist, then cocoa, chocolate, earthiness and green plums in the end. Quite mild and quite nice. First impression in the mouth is cold coffee - roasty, watery, and lacking sweetness. Becomes quite stewed as I get through it and in the end I can’t finish. Very short and light on the palate. Perfect carbonation - thought this shows off some of the beers faults. Promising at first - this could be my kind of beer - but then suffers from a similar stewed worty issue that the bitter has.
