draft poured a reddish color no head. aroma I got some mild bitterness. now this was nitro at the brewery and I do believe that being on nitro muted some of the bitterness and just made this a plain old beer not very good at all

This beer gets much love in this area and I was surprised I had not reviewed it. First things first, not an ESB. The pour is a bit disappointing in a way that is somewhat hard to describe. Seems to be missing the intangibles. Some weight to the pour would be nice. The head is very short lived and disappears completely which gives the beer a watery look in the glass. No lacing. There is very little discernible hop character/bitterness and the malt profile is way in the foreground. Nose is predominantly earthy/bready/biscuity/toasty malt (which is nice) with a very subtle caramel sweetness and herbal/fruity hop note. Flavor is very easy going, biscuity/toasted grain at the forefront and a mild hop character. Tasting more like a strong mild or a brown ale than a bitter. I enjoy the flavor, it’s clean and refreshing with a nice malty finish. Light bodied and dry on the finish.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a deep dark brown with a thin half finger head. While the head is not big it has decent retention and ok lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel and roasted malt with some hints of coffee. A little biscuit in there too. Nothing really in the way of hops. The flavor is roasted malt and toast with some biscuit. Caramel and toffee underneath and it is quite sweet throughout. Some light spicy hops underneath with a moderate bitterness. Way too much carbonation with a spritzy but sweet mouthfeel. Overall, not very good. Tastes like a homebrewed brown ale. No real yeast character and way too much carbonation. I’ll pass next time.

Pours brown with a thin head. Sweet caramel malt. Toasty and tasty. A light caramel is balanced with a touch of bitterness and lemon. Good.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2015 12 oz bottle from Beer Army The ESB poured a deep amber with a normal head and modest lacing. The aroma of roasted malts on the nose. The taste of burnt malt greets your taste buds. More malt than hop on the nose and palate. The body is medium to light with average carbonation. This is an interesting beverage to drink. You experience an earthy taste that is intriguing. My first from this Asheville brewer. Enjoyed another draft at Jack of the Woods in Asheville. Staying with my rating

Bottle. Very good esb. Nice and malty with a dry hop finish. If you want an ESB, this one is a very good choice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Rich copper color, medium tan head. Toasty malted aroma, caramel, nuts. Medium sweet taste. Medium body, mild bitter very late in the finish. Dry finish, sessionable ale. Pretty good overall.

Pours a pretty amber-mahogany with a fairly thick pale tan head. Aroma has malty, caramel and subtle malty notes. Flavor has a strong malty core plus woody hop and caramel notes, not so bitter. Texture is fizzy, if thin. OK, if not outstanding.

Poured dark caramel brown with a thin, slightly off-white head. Aroma of caramel, soggy bread, light coffee. Flavor is malty sweet with hops shining through late. I prefer a hoppier ESB but this isn’t bad.

Finally! Green man in 12 oz bottles! Pours a hazy copper with thin lacy foam. Aroma of bread, coffee, chocolate, and apple. Great smooth taste with sweet caramel and toffee. Finishes with a bit of roast and even a hint of smokiness. Very drinkable yet complex. Excellent beer in a little seen style in the US craft scene. I love to see well done British styles of beer.
