COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English in style, it is “monster-hopped,” with English malts plus a special honey malt from Canada, Target and Kent Goldings hops added five times during the brewing process. This orange-amber ale is strong in both flavor and alcohol!

On tap at Jack of the Wood. Pours a deep hazy orange/amber with a thin head. Aroma is earthy, moderately hopped- zesty, tea, and floral with slight citrus hops and a honey-like caramel malt backbone. Ok earthy and green hop flavor, good malty backbone and moderate body, tea and floral hops and a bit of orange peel with more caramel. Green and slightly harsh bitterness, but overall it was drinkable and not bad.

Draft at the brewpub. Classic amber color with a thin top. This delivers with a very hoppy character, snappy and full of that beloved acid. Great full bodied background. (#4311, 10/5/2011)

Growler shared by Lunch. Served in a tulip. Pours a light copper color with a single-finger white head and a bit of lacing as it slowly falls down my glass. The nose brings forward some light malt and English hops--maybe grassy and herbal--but along with that comes a bit of an off care and slight vegetal notes. The taste is similarly lacking in any hop component and simply has a mild graininess with a bit of vegetable skin. Mouthfeel is medium with average carbonation for the serving type. Drinkability is not particularly good. I would not say that there were any straight-out flaws or off-flavors with this beer, just that there was nearly nothing in the way of hop or malt character to really hide any flaws. Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear gold with a slight amber hue and a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma had combination of musty pine, grass and sweet grains. Flavor has more pine up front that mellows to sweet grain and light grass.

Copper, decent sized rocky beige head. Very fresh, pungent aroma - piney at first, with a touch of grapefruit. Pretty tasty, with notes of pine and resin. Fairly assertive finish, with a decent aftertaste. Draft at The Laughing Seed, Asheville.

Draught at Jack. Clear orange-amber with a lacing white head. Nice, strong hoppy aroma. Taste is medium-strong bitter and hoppy - helps the craving but a little simplistic. Medium-full body and a dryish, bitterish aftertaste. My second-favorite Green Man, and the best of those drunk at Jack.

Appearance: Pours a hazy amber body with a thin, bubbly off-white head. Smell: Aroma of earthy, herbaceous hops and vague hints of English toffee. Taste: Mild toffee flavor and sweetness that quickly shifts to a moderately spicy hop taste that lasts into the gently lingering finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Very mild carbonation. Drinkability: Cask and you shall receive!

On tap at Pizzeria Toro, Durham. Nice to see some Green Man stuff every now and again, and a couple pints of this went down well. Nice lustrous orange pour, with a silky head. Soft English hops and substantial malts in the nose, definitely leaning strongly in the direction of leaf tea. Nice and smooth in the mouthfeel, not overly bitter on the palate. Not particularly full-flavored and aggressive in the way that’s standard for IPAs these days, so it’s certainly a relatively toned down example of the style (despite the commerical description) and that’s no bad thing.
