1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20 Cantabrian (381) - Christchurch, - AUG 12, 2012UPDATED: SEP 27, 2012 Sorry, but I didn’t like it. How relevant is the aroma and appearance when the taste is bad? Horrible, bitter finish. Is this an American take on IPAs? Gutted to reduce the average score. There’s other great beer from New Zealand’s Green Man, but this one is not for me.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 glennmastrange (1884) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - JAN 29, 2013
Tap. Moderate malt notes of roasted and caramel, moderate to heavy pine for the hops, light soap for the yeast. Head is small, creamy, white with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is sparkling clear amber orange. Flavor starts moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is medium, a little slick with a soft carbonation. A little simple for an IPA, but the aromas are all there. Maybe it’s better to have this fresh from a keg rather than a bottle, judging by the other ratings.
2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Beersiveknown (1616) - NORTHERN IRELAND - JAN 26, 2013
Dark chestnut amberwith fluffy white head. Balsamic vinegar and redcurrantnotes in the nose are the first indications something’s gone wrong here. Medium carbonation, quite tart with red fruit and sweet malt, lots of acetic acid. Either infected or oxidised, pour job.
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 Huhzubendah (1979) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 10, 2012
Growler shared by Lunch. Thanks Paul!
The beer appears clear and orange in color, with a half inch of head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. The aroma is odd, with scents of hops and weird herbal notes. The flavor brings more of the same, with a prominent taste of overly cooked vegetables. The beer is out of balance and off putting. An astringent bitter taste lingers on the tongue. Not recommended.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Jimthechap (1194) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 21, 2012
Deep amber colour with minimal head and hints of carbonation. Do I smell hops? I smell citrus and passionfruit. As it warmed, it released scents of rata honey as well. The smell isn’t overt, nor easy to pick either. It started out with a blast of bitterness which stayed as a spruce astringency on the sides of my tongue. What I like: that it is a bit more subtle than an American IPA. What I don’t like: It isn’t subtle enough to be like a British IPA. Would I drink it again? Yes, but there seem to be a number of better alternatives in the IPA market in New Zealand.

Pours cloudy amber. Full nose of claasic grapefruit & grass. Full bodied palate is full of green & grapefruit hops; palte is perfectly balanced. Did I get a different batch form all the other raters? This is a really good beer.

Bottle From Betty’s Liquor Queenstown
I guess this has aged a bit since many reviews, but I didnt notice such a huge diacetyl presence, rather a fairly meagre hop background, a pretty murky affair

Cloudy golden with a medium white head. Aroma had fruity and floral hops. Flavor was slightly sourish with floral and fruity notes. Finished dry and sourish with a bitter touch.

50 cL bottle, courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is citrusy, peachy and slight grapefruity. Crisp hoppy and citric. Bitter and dry into the finish. Vague yoghurt note.

Bottled. A hazy dark golden beer with a huge yellowish head. The aroma has notes of citrus and hay on a light malty background. The flavor is sweet with notes of hops, lemon, and straw, leading to a lightly acidic and OK bitter finish.
