Bottle. Pours a lightly watery brown with a small off-white head. Nose is light cocoa, roast, metal, light coffee. Flavor is similar--a bit watery for the style, light roast, and char. Meh.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours dark brown thin tan lacing. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Also has a mild metallic smell that wasnít so pleasing. Mild sweet taste. Medium body but thin texture. Does have an interesting smoky and warming finish, but the beer lacks overall flavor I would expect in porter.

Cola-raspberry pour into the glass, with a diminished eggshell head that leaves a ring of suds and spotty lacing. The nose is somewhat toasted, of sweet caramel and raisin puree. Very nice full flavors of dark pitted fruits, toasted caramel, smoked hops, roasty esters, balanced with a clean roasted fruit-skin bitter to finish. Everything about this screams smoked roasted dark fruits, including the medium-full body and subtle carbonation activity. An absolutely wonderful porter, and weird that itís local and I havenít appreciated it to the fullest (via a rating) until now. Just a great brew, perfect for a session. Wonderful.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Comes out of the tap a luscious and barely translucent chocolate brown with a fairly thick light tan head. Rich aroma has notes of chocolate, coffee and molasses with a hint of licorice. Smoky flavor has firm notes of roast coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, licorice and molasses with more than a hint of hops. Smooth texture is quite fizzy. Definitely worth ordering a crater if you like dark beers.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft... Jupiter Craft Brewerís Festival 2013... Clear nearly-black ale with flashes of ruby and a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. The bouquet is roasty and chocolaty with a trace of vanilla. Light to medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. The flavor is roasty and sweet, offering chocolate, and toasted tree nuts. Lengthy, sweet finish.

Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has light dark earthy grains with roasted malts underlying. Flavor has a bit more chocolate with roasted malts and a touch of dark grains.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Beer #11 Asheville trip. Pours a very, very deep brown. Aroma is lightly chocolate. Flavor is a match, simple, smooth chocolate, some balancing bitterness on the finish. Not spectacular, but solid.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Brixx Chapel Hill. Glad this was on sale.... Looks like my companionís Coke. Dark copper brown pour with a thin fizzy head. Appearance just looks thin and soda-y. Nose is lightly nutty and grainy with some cereal notes. Head doesnít stick around. Some diacetyl and toasted grain in the flavor. Hints of mellow cacao. Very lean and dry with subtle coffee notes. Brown porter? Needs more substance
