English style brown porter. A dark brown beer with a red tint, it offers mocha, carob, and chocolate flavors and coffee aromas with a slightly smoky and warming alcohol finish.

On tap at the brewery. Dark brown pour. Molasses aroma with roasted grain. Medium body. Roasted-toasted-burnt malt with ask and wood hints. Not bad. Medium body. Not too much to say about this one. Did not make an impression on me but was drinkable.

Comes out of the tap a luscious and barely translucent chocolate brown with a fairly thick light tan head. Rich aroma has notes of chocolate, coffee and molasses with a hint of licorice. Smoky flavor has firm notes of roast coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, licorice and molasses with more than a hint of hops. Smooth texture is quite fizzy. Definitely worth ordering a crater if you like dark beers.

Draft... Jupiter Craft Brewer’s Festival 2013... Clear nearly-black ale with flashes of ruby and a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. The bouquet is roasty and chocolaty with a trace of vanilla. Light to medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. The flavor is roasty and sweet, offering chocolate, and toasted tree nuts. Lengthy, sweet finish.

Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has light dark earthy grains with roasted malts underlying. Flavor has a bit more chocolate with roasted malts and a touch of dark grains.

A finely balanced porter with a good English malt base and nice chocolate notes. Medium bodied with some roast. Pours a pretty dark brown with a slight tan ring.

Beer #11 Asheville trip. Pours a very, very deep brown. Aroma is lightly chocolate. Flavor is a match, simple, smooth chocolate, some balancing bitterness on the finish. Not spectacular, but solid.

On tap at Brixx Chapel Hill. Glad this was on sale.... Looks like my companion’s Coke. Dark copper brown pour with a thin fizzy head. Appearance just looks thin and soda-y. Nose is lightly nutty and grainy with some cereal notes. Head doesn’t stick around. Some diacetyl and toasted grain in the flavor. Hints of mellow cacao. Very lean and dry with subtle coffee notes. Brown porter? Needs more substance

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2012 Dark brown with beige head. Smooth and very good. Great chocolate aroma. Had this at the brewery in Asheville. Served at the right temperature. Great experience.

Draft in a flight at the brewpub. Lots of roasted notes to this with some great malty undertones to this. I rather like this porter.

Tap at Bier Garden, Asheville. Brown-black, some stained-glass corners. Steady thin beige head. Sweet roasty cocoa aroma, a touch of coffee. Creeping towards Stout. Medium bodied, somewhat watery, but big specialty malt tones. A touch too roasty for the style, but a nice beer.
