Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has light dark earthy grains with roasted malts underlying. Flavor has a bit more chocolate with roasted malts and a touch of dark grains.

Sample at the tap room. Black pour with a medium tan head that diminishes gradually. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, dark chocolate and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of charred malt, chocolate and mild hops. The finish is roasty with a short malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap at Jack of the Wood. Pours fairly dark brown, light head. Aroma was toasty, malt, and a hint of chocolate. Taste very smooth, roasted malts, light bitterness, chocolate in back of tongue. I really dug this porter.

Full bodied and rich. Earthy and full of black malt. Nothing spectacular but very drinkable. At the mellow mushroom.

Glossy appearance, nearly black, with an average size beige head and a fair amount of lacing. Earthy aroma of toasted malts emitting hints of coffee and pine nuts. Flavors of bittersweet chocolate and tree bark gently influenced by herbal hops. Aftertaste lacked a strong body. Smooth, softly carbonated mouthfeel with a short lived finish.

Good dark malty and slightly licorice smell, very dark appearance, taste is pretty bold roasted on the front and watery on the back, slightly bitter finish but not sure if hops or coffee...more bitter with sips...too bitter

Drank a Boylan Brewing co, drank in a pint glass poured from a tap. Pours a dark brown, with a light brown head. Smells of roasted malts. A well done porter but nothing amazing.

From a bottle, this porter poured an appetizing deep off-black color, minimal translucence, proportionate dark khaki head, thicker than your average porter. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate malt coffee, average for the style. Things get really interesting upon tasting this brew, which reveals a rich chocolatey and warm malty flavor, with an exceedingly smooth and creamy palate. Some coffee, no hops, mostly roasted malt in the flavor. Some might say not too complex, but I would say this brew doubles down on the smooth chocolate malt and does so successfully. Fresh, full-bodied, all around excellent!

Draft at Jack of the Woods The porter poured a dark black color with a tan head . The is a very smooth porter a with medium body. The aroma greets you with roasted malts, chocolate with hints of licorice and coffee. Another flavor that you experience is sweet apple. This is a complex porter worthy of its reputation.

Bottle. Poured black color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium dark sweet chocolate flavor with a medium dark sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew.
