3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Asheville, NC - Bruisin’ Ales - 12 oz bottle. Pours a pitch black with an initial rocky, bubbly khaki colored head that dissipates quickly. Aroma has some creosote accents, a touch of just grounded coffee beans. Flavor is bold with some bittersweet baker’s chocolate. some day old black coffee, a finish of topsoil. Mouthfeel has a nice chalkiness to it. Been a a while since I had a solid every day English Porter with out something added to it or sweetened out to the max. Very enjoyable.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Had in a bottle at Wayside in Biltmore with Red Sox game. Decent porter- pretty heavy mouthfeel so only a "3" for palate. Feels more stout-like to me. Pours dark brown with reddish tinge. Decent head and lacing. Tons of chocolate and coffee on the nose/ palate. On the sweet side for me- maybe too much vanilla/caramel in there? Great winter beer- feeling a bit more like lighter spring brews at the moment.

Draft at the brewery, served in a taster. Pours a cloudy brown-amber with an off-white head that laces the glass. Notes of toasted malts, tobacco, brown sugar, chocolate, leaves, and nuts. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a toasty, earthy mouthfeel. Decent porter.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 27, 2014 On tap courtesy of Green Man for RBWG. Dark brown pour. Aroma is mild of cocoa beans, slightly earthy with sticky toffee. Flavor feels like it’s heavy on the crystal. Sweet caramel masks the mild coffee and chocolate flavors. 6/4/6/3/12 = 3.1-- RE-RATE: I must bump this up after having a blind tasting and ranking this rather high. Lots of nice mocha notes. Still sweet on the crystal, but it’s balanced by a nice roastiness. Really good bottled porter.
