3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 TinyTim (25) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 9, 2008
Poors very dark brown, nearly black, with a rich, brown, active head. Aroma is not very strong, considering the colour and alcohol content, it is sweet and malty. The flavour is strong, smokey, malty, and a little bit of chocolate, not a very complex stout. The malt tastes burnt, not in a good way. The most impressive part of this beer is it’s appearance, that together with it’s brute strength are the only things that set it apart from any average stout.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 douglas88 (3684) - Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - JUL 25, 2008
Bottle brought all the way from New Zealand by Andrew, thanks man. Pours a dark brown color with a medium brown head. The aroma was rich chocolate and roasted malts. The taste was full of a rich burnt malt, some chocolates, a good hand full of bitter hops, and a kinda soy saucy bitter finish. Very nice.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 yalnikim (800) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 4, 2008
Tasted 04/06/2008. 500ml bottle from New World, Miramar. Pours a pitch-like black with a tight but disappearing dark tan head. Roast dominated nose, as you’d expect. A little malt sweetness and lightly fruity. It is quite simple, though I expect this will become more complex in time. Sweet malt and a very big dose of roast play the biggest role in the mouth. Roastiness gives a slight tart edge to the beer. Slightly leathery, almost salty, on the palate - the most expressive and complex area of the beer. Perfect carbonation lets the flavours all shine, and gives it a fullish feel without drying it out too much. Lingering roast keeps me want more. A mini imperial stout - a mini "Merchant ofthe Devil" even? Watched "Control" while drinking this - good beer, good movie, great band. Nice one guys, really good to see the improvement, this is the best Green Man I’ve had since the very first time I tried the contract-brewed lager. The odd tweak or two could make this a really great beer. I think I might purchase a bottle or two for the cellar.

Black with thick toffee coloured head. Nice choclate, coffee flavours. Mild bitterness, short mouthfeel. Probably one of the better brews from Green Man.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 sunevdj (2492) - Copenhagen OE, DENMARK - MAR 19, 2008
Pours black with an off-white diminishing head. Very nice lacings. Light sweetness with a moderate bitterness. Malty aromas of toasted grains and coffee. Also aromas of cask wood and a hint of bandage. Medium bodied and soft carbonation.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 bozoNZ (672) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 11, 2008
500ml bottle. Not sure that it’s the darkest NZ beer but it pours fairly black, crema head but doesn’t hold. Dark malts aroma but more muted than you would expect. Very dark char malt flavours, however a bit soapy with some milky /chalkiness in the palate. I think the alchol holds this beer up but the palate is lacking and the flavours very one dimensional.
