4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 davidm (1370) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JAN 7, 2010
Bottle 500ml. Delicious beer, the last of my trip to NZ. Burnt aromas, with chocolate, and also apple. Tastes sweet at first, for a long-lasting bitter finish. Syrupy and full-bodied in the palate. Black, with a fizzy, short-lasting head.

Tasted 04/06/2008. 500ml bottle from New World, Miramar. Pours a pitch-like black with a tight but disappearing dark tan head. Roast dominated nose, as you’d expect. A little malt sweetness and lightly fruity. It is quite simple, though I expect this will become more complex in time. Sweet malt and a very big dose of roast play the biggest role in the mouth. Roastiness gives a slight tart edge to the beer. Slightly leathery, almost salty, on the palate - the most expressive and complex area of the beer. Perfect carbonation lets the flavours all shine, and gives it a fullish feel without drying it out too much. Lingering roast keeps me want more. A mini imperial stout - a mini "Merchant ofthe Devil" even? Watched "Control" while drinking this - good beer, good movie, great band. Nice one guys, really good to see the improvement, this is the best Green Man I’ve had since the very first time I tried the contract-brewed lager. The odd tweak or two could make this a really great beer. I think I might purchase a bottle or two for the cellar.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 sdriessen (318) - Dunedin, NEW ZEALAND - JAN 30, 2009
Aroma of dark chocolate and whiskey notes. Through immense roasted malt comes sweet prune and coffee.
Gorgeous flavours, a nice bitterness of a black coffee. Some hops give it a slight twist, like raisin.
Rich flavours of roasted malt, creamy coffee and cocoa.
A smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Awesome stout.

330mL bottle from the brewery. Pours very black. Brown fluffy head, which dissipates to a thin layer. Little carbonation, minimal lacing. Bready nose, yeast and roasted malt. Silky mouthfeel. A strong roasted malt base to this one, bringing strong coffee flavour. Strong bitterness like an espresso. Very robust. Finish is long and bitter. Very nice stout, and at 7% ABV makes you feel quite happy quite quickly.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Demise (57) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 12, 2009
UPDATED: MAR 18, 2009 Pours an opaque dark brown with light brown head. A malty aroma with coffee notes, dark chocolate and a hint of plum. It has quite a crisp, clean flavour with dark chocolate, raisin, plum, prune, a strong cherry character and a bitter coffee finish. The only hint of the 7% ABV comes in the aftertaste, accompany a lovely dark fruit flavour. Incredibly balanced and smooth, an incredibly enjoyable beer.

500ml bottle. Rich deep coffee colour with a thin tan head, looks great when poured, with foam that fades to lace. Burnt malt and dark chocolate aromas with flavours that are not as strong as the aroma and lets it down a little. Some chocolate flavours kick in after a while.

Bottled. A black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of malt, straw, and roasted malt. The flavor is very sweet with notes of roastd malt as well as light ntoes of prunes and wood towards the finish. Simple and a bit too sweet for my liking. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Poured quite dark with a large tan head though the head didn’t want to wait around, not to worry. Chocolate aroma along with some burnt notes. Taste is lovely, roasted bitterness, smooth, alcohol warmth, not complex so easy to drink. Enjoyed this more than their Keller but then again I like Stouts.
