COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Robust and warming, this stout has hints of coffee and dark chocolate. A complex variety of roasted malts, and moderate hopping temper the pleasant sweetness of this brew. This special batch lurked in our cellar until our brewers felt it was worthy of its name.

From the tap poured a black brew with a generous dark brown head. Aromas of honey, and chocolate. Wonderful mouth feel with full body and flavors of honey, and light hops. I like it.

Tap. Very dark with thin head and generous lacing. Smells like molasses and chocolate and biscuit. Tastes dry and lightly roasty with some light bitterness the end. Thick with dry finish.

Bottle from beer study. ($15 with sales tax) Bottle price has come down a considerable bit since the last 750ml I saw for sale from them, but in my opinion it needs to come down even more. Especially for a beer that is not even barrel aged or using any really expensive ingredients. It’s like I’m paying $10 for the bottle, and $5 for its contents. And GM here in NC is just one example of the countless craft brewers who have jumped on this price gouging bandwagon. Beer does not have to be expensive or in big champagne type bottles to get respect! Bells and Fouders, two powerhouse craft breweries over the last decade have just recently put just a few of their very special offerings in these bottles but the prices tend to match up to the product. I know GM offers its other " regular" lineup beers in 6 packs at a reasonable price of 8.99 so why not this one? This beer is not deserving of its presentation but its not a bad beer either. Has a nice appearance-ark brown, thin tan lace with a webby snowflake pattern left on the sides of the glass. Nose is dark fruits, bitter dark chocolate, roasted malts. Flavor is chocolate, hints of Irish cream, black cherries, and coffee. Silky, creamy mouthfeel, with dark chocolate fruity bitter finish. Much better as it warms. I would buy this again in this format for $8.99 because I want to support this local brewery despite my opinion of their specific beer prices. This is actually a really solid imperial stout that is very well balanced, has a silky mouthfeel and finishes nicely dry and not overly sweet like many of the "top" ones today. sorry green man people for taking out my beer price rant on you, but this is the place for comments.

Bottle. Pours a near black color with a moderate light brown head. Nose is very roasty to the point of coffee, and really inviting. Feels very thick, yet quite smooth. Taste is quite roasty, with some sweetness on the front end and some slight bitterness on the back end. Interesting...

Nothing really wrong here just boring and as expected. A bit roasty but more sweet and syrupy. Raisins, chocolate, and some earthy notes. Average but drinkable.

Served into a snifter with a dark color and a nice darker tan head that isn’t to heavy and doesn’t last very long. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, fruit, maybe some chocolate. Tastes initially of better coffee and roasted malt but has a nice finish maybe a little harsh on the back-end with some coffee and chocolate. I initially thought it was light in body but as the drink went on it was medium/medium-heavy in body and not overcarbonated. Overall a decent stout that I would drink again.
