3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 hopscotch (7538) - Vero Beach, USA - JAN 29, 2012
Draft… Hazy golden ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The aroma is of cotton candy intermingled with honey and fuzzy fruit. Medium to full-bodied with tickling carbonation. The flavor offers sweet caramel and cotton candy with just enough bitterness to suggest at attempt at balance. Lengthy, lightly sweet finish.

Draft at Cigar City tasting room. Pours a clear medium yellow gold color with a small white head. Aroma has some spice notes along with malt sweetness. Flavor is fairly sweet as well. The 9.5% seems extremely well disguised.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tricyclist (72) - Spring Hill, Florida, USA - MAR 23, 2012
Sample at Cigar City. Pours a light, hazyish golden/straw. Aroma is mild, light malt, little hop, slight toffee/caramel notes. Flavor is similar, but I can’t place it all. Malty up from with little hop character if any. Caramel sweetness is very present, but the alcohol isn’t at all. Very well hidden for 9.5%, but still not my favorite.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 markwise (2914) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - MAR 7, 2012
On draft at FBG Fest 2012. Pours a barleywine amber red brown with an off-white head. Nose is honey, big malt, some dates, some brandy and boozy notes. Flavor is similar- big honey then toffee, barleywine fruit, light booze, and some brandy notes. Medium to full in body and an enjoyable sipper overall.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 burg326 (1113) - Florida, USA - MAR 5, 2012
Sampled at FBG Beerfest, poured a dark golden color, aromas of caramel, and candy. Flavors are the same, not too much barley wine characteristics, but had a boozy finish in my book.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 dimenhetfield (1740) - , Florida, USA - JAN 25, 2012
On draft at Funky Buddha for South FL Beer Week. Someone passed me a glass of this and goes "does this taste like a barley wine?" My response: "Nope, more like a wheat wine". It was strange to sip a beer that didn’t taste much like a barley wine at all but still have the title. Maybe some confusion somewhere?
