A Belgian Strong Ale with a little something extra. 1825… is that a year or a beer? An address or the number of nights you don’t remember from your youth? In any case, our 1825 Belgian Strong Ale defies definition with it’s golden ale roots and it’s slightly extra punch.
Grain: Belgian Pale, Belgian Munich, Belgian Biscuit, Belgian Aromatic Hops: Styrian Goldings, Vanguard Yeast: Belgian yeast Extras: Clear candi sugar
Specs: 9.3% ABV 11.5º Lovibond

Bottle. Pour a hazy reddish copper with a small creamy beige head. Belgian candi sugar, malts, bubblegum and dark fruit is the aroma and taste. Nice.

pours amber with a think white head. Minimal lacing.aroma is a a little spicy(coriander and white pepper) and leathery. flavor of coriander, bubblegum, burnt sugar, and orange zest. medium/full bodied with a slick mouth feel. alcohol is pretty well hidden. finishes astringently bitter. This is o.k good for the price.

12oz bottle, from a 4pk purchased from Woodstock Wine & Cheese in Michigan. Pours a mostly clear amber color. Thin off-white head. Loose bits of lace, eventually fades to a minimal ring of head. Up front, pretty big-bodied and belgian-y. A lot of belgian yeast and candi sugar up front. Kind of spicy, some candied orange. Bigger body. Kind of slick texture. Smooth, kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Moderate to bigger sweet taste, light spicy. Alcohol reasonably well hidden, but the bigger body and sweetness is not. Overall, a solid belgian golden strong ale to sip on. Meets expectation for the style, but doesn’t meet the higher expectation that I have for Greenbush.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours dark copper. Flavor is sweet, moderately malty, with moderate alcohol burn. Decent richness of palate. Decent Belgian Strong Ale but nothing exceptional.

Bottle. Pours a murky amber. Small white head. Aroma of Belgian spices. Flavor again contains Belgian spices including bananas and cloves. Also dark fruits. Nice robust palate. Another very nice beer from Greenbush, a place that I must visit soon.

Not to familiar with this style, but guessing this is a good American interpretation. Good medium dark color, light head. Aroma has some fruity notes. Taste is strong and not too bitter. Good beer.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2014 Bottle: Almost fully clear, golden-amber body with a thin, soapy white head on top, moderate sheets of lacing left on the glass. Aroma full of some medicinal Belgian yeast, clove, mint, Candi sugar, bubblegum, mild perfume, & lightly sweet, fruity esters. Taste is similar; sharp Belgian yeast flavors up front, clove & sweet esters just on the edge of banana, perhaps faint green apple as well. Clove, bubblegum, some earthy /floral bitterness in the back-end. Candi sugar adds an apparent sweetness, again there’s a mild medicinal tone overseeing everything. Phenol & light fusel alcohol becomes a bit too noticeable in the finish. A decent beer, but not really my speed. A little messy overall.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, thanks Brandon! Dark orange-red pour with white head, aroma brought notes of red fruit, orange, hints of dark fruit with raisin into some biscuit, caramel, hints of spicy Belgian yeast with some esters as well. Taste is a mix of caramel, toffee, hints of dried fruits into a bit of raisin, touch of yeasty notes, finishing fairly sweet, slightly dry.
