12oz bottle 6/8/13 (Binny’s Downers Grove Mix a Six)-40° in Shaker-Pours black with a small loose tan head. Aroma of hops, chocolate, and coffee. Taste of the same with more chocolate and coffee. This medium to full bodied brew has a lot darker tastes and is still easily drinkable. Great brew.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
My current favorite. Keep trying other Black IPA's, and can't find anything better. Perfect balance of roasted malt to bitter hoppiness. Also 7%+ to just give it that little extra.

Dark pour with a brown head. Aroma is roasted malt and fruity hops. Yum! Taste is a great balance of roasted malt and fruit(citrus) hops. So tasty. Green Bush is a 2.5 hour drive for me- sounds like a summer trip.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
A very nice take on what is fast becoming one of my favorite styles. Coffee and chocolate up front, mild bitterness in back. Dark appearance with nice head. Picked this one up in Grand Rapids on my trip to Toronto in 2013.

Pure black. Very heavy smokey smell, with incredibly fresh hop notes popping through. Thick tan head.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Champanes,
this ale had a brown-black pour and it gave a one finger tan colored head that recedes to a thin cover and ring, this beer was opaque but I could see fine bubbles climbing the sides of the glass, there was some spots and small fingers of lacing on the glass, the bottom of the bottle had a layer of dark sediment,
when first poured, there were aromas of citrus and grass hops, but the hops sort of drifted away a bit, also, there was roasted malt, coffee, faint dry chocolate, and some dark fruit notes,
it had flavors of roasted malt, bitter hops, coffee, faint chocolate and some prune date dark fruit but not as sweet, faint malt and molasses sweetness, the finish had some hop bitterness with malt trailing,
the mouth feel was nice with a less than medium with some creaminess, it had average carbonation,
one of the better Black IPAs I had sampled, I would recommend.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle, pours a roasty stouty black with chocolate and hops aroma - an interesting opening approach. a tiny bit of alcohol is apparent but not boozy, and the big hops presence is a fun combination with the cocoa. full bodied with a fully bitter and dark chocolate finish - quite a nice beer.
