3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Hopleaf. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, dark brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is big, resiny and dank citruses with lots of dark chocolate and slightly ashy roasts. A few minty florals in there as well. Flavor is similar. Plenty of catty citruses and minty florals with a bunch of dark chocolates and somewhat ashy roasts. Finishes dry, roasty, resiny, and moderately bitter with lots of citruses and a nice chocolate. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium, smooth body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a really enjoyable Black IPA. Lots of citruses and pleasantly bitter with a good amount of ashy roasts, but well balanced by a nice chocolate backing. Good one.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A dense black IPA with a great roasted malt texture and scent. Superbly blended with a lot of nice grains going on. Chocolate, malt, wheat, and hop notes all mix nicely.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
In short: A roasted and citrusy Black IPA of above average quality.
How: Growler shared at Camping Brewdown 2012.
The look: Very near black body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is inviting with pleasant bright hop aroma (mostly citrusy but also a bit grassy) and a good roast. Taste has highly roasted blackened malts with some of the usual suspects of this type of malt backbone (cacao sensation, ground coffee), nothing fruity here. Hopping shines, mostly citrusy, bitterness of medium intensity. The roast and bitterness create a somewhat dry finish. Good mouthfeel with a lot of soft bubbles. My type of Black IPA, an above average example of the style. Another good growler shared at week-end long Camping Brewdown 2012, that party was so epic that it should have been narrated by Morgan Freeman.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma is very hoppy and malty, sweet grapefruit and grassy. Appearance is dark dark brown, beige head. Taste is very malty and bitter, hop presence at the back. The flavor is like a bitter scotch ale with the hops finishing. The mouthfeel is sticky, the flavor does not dissipate. Overall, itís tasty and complex.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is very bitter and full of hops. It is dark with a light brown head. Taste is very hoppy with plenty of citrus to compliment the hops. Finish is clean and fresh with lingering bitterness. If youíre not used to black IPAs matching the flavor with the darkness of this beer confuses the senses. The all around complexity of this beer makes it one everyone should try.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Had on tap at Kumaís Corner. Served in a pint glass.
A: Pours a light black color with dark brown edges where the light catches it. A light tan head forms on the pour and dissipates to a thin collar. It leaves some nice soapy webbing behind.
S: The nose has some fruity citrus hops with some nice roasted malts and some light bitter chocolate. Pretty standard, but good.
T: Wow, the taste is significantly better than the nose. There is a great combination of citrus hop flavors with a nice roasted oat malt body. The bitter chocolate provides a nice base for the citrus and there is also a light coffee bean flavor that plays off the lingering hop flavor. The finish is roasty with a light pine.
M: Medium bodied with a nice carbonation. The finish is refreshing with a drying, roasted finish.
O: Very solid. Really well done with the green hops lingering in the background while the roasted malts and chocolate flavors were upfront. Nicely done Greenbush.
