12oz bottle. Big, real deal Black IPA. Opaque brown-black body. Big foamy beige head. Classic black chocolate mint aroma and flavor. Big and full bodied, with some serious chocolate covered hops. While it still seems like itís on the brink of infection, this is a pretty quality offering. Chunky, thick specialty malts. Solid.

Bottle. Deep black with a tall pillowy tan head. Nice malt aroma that has roasted but not sweet accents. Medium to full body, smooth, lots of flavor and a short finish. Very good all around.

Pours a dark brown, almost black actually, with a full tan head that settles slowly. The aroma has lots of pine, roasted malts, coffee, mild smokiness, and some light floral notes. The taste is very roasted, while containing lots of pine, chocolate, and coffee. Plenty of hoppy bitterness with this one. Aftertaste is quite long, and it is a roasted pine flavor. Medium bodied, with a more thick texture, and big in lively carbonation. This is a pretty cool beer. If you take away all of the hoppiness, you would get a good stout. With everything going on in here, I find this very enjoyable.

brewskis (123) - Saint John, Indiana, USA - AUG 16, 2013
Pours pitch black with a finger length mocha colored head that went away fairly slowly and left a thin ring of lacing. Nice balance in the aroma for a black ipa, but not overpowering at all. Get floral and faint pine notes from the hops, while also getting lots of roasted malts, licorice, and some dark chocolate notes. Nice balance in the taste as well. Starts with floral notes, some orange, pine. Then a burst of roasted malts come through and mix with the hop flavors. Start to get dark chocolate notes as well. The finish is a great balance of hoppy and roasty flavors. More of the floral, orange, and pine along with roasted malts and creamy dark chocolate. Get some ashy/smokey flavors as well. Do get that belgian flavor from the malts, but it is minimal and adds to the complexity of the beer. High medium body with a really nice creamy mouthfeel. Somewhat clean on the finish too: no resinous hop oils left behind. I thought this was an outstanding example of what a black ipa should be. Definitely hoppy, but incorporated with a hefty dose of roasted, dark malts nicely. Greenbush continues to impress.

Dark brown pour, cream colored head. Bitter earthy hops, roasted dark malts and a slightly smoky finish. Good!

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Piney hop aroma, juicy citrus hint with toasty malts hinting at smoke, all giving it a bit of burnt marijuana smell. Hops in the flavor are an even mix of pine and citrus, some ashy flavor and a bit of cocoa. Pretty tasty.
