Had this at the Campground Brewdown. Pours a deep black with a medium to large tanned beige head. Roast and citrus on the nose, chocolate and cocoa. Lots of dark roast with big citrus and soft cocoa. Citrus and roast, chocolate, cocoa, light lemon and citrus. Soft roast, chocolate, cocoa.

Pours near black with a transient tan head and a coffee and treacle aroma. There is a Chocolate and dark molasses flavor with a sharp bitter hop finish.

12oz bottle, shared with DanielCoor. Dark brown, slightly red color. More clear around the edges, but from a reasonable distance, more than dark enough for a black IPA. Medium body. More dry texture. Good, super-smooth lighter carbonation. Nice piney, lightly earthy, light herbal hop aroma. Good, light roasted malt aroma, a nice balanced amount. Lightly toasty, just a hint of burnt / ashiness. Good herbal bitterness, light sweet taste in the finish. Very tasty aftertaste. Super good, drinkable, and tasty. Was not expecting that, as I was told that this was less than fresh. Very fresh, assertive, citrusy piney nose. Much better than expected, very solid

Tap: Deep brown hue with purplish highlights topped by a small fading head. The aroma is quite striking: catty, resiny, leafy, minty, grapefruit, mango, light hop spice, Carafa and ashy, toasted, chocolate, coffee and biscuity malts. The taste is fruity (citrus and plum) with a burnt coffee and ashy undertone. Some chocolate, caramel and nutty tones before a slight clove and pepper hop spice finish. Well done Black IPA has it is not astringent but displays hop characteristics cleanly. The mouth feel is lively, sharp and moderately carbonated that keeps it fresh, slight ashy finish. Overall very solid offering and quite yummy, had two pint glasses of this.

In short: A roasted and citrusy Black IPA of above average quality.
How: Growler shared at Camping Brewdown 2012.
The look: Very near black body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is inviting with pleasant bright hop aroma (mostly citrusy but also a bit grassy) and a good roast. Taste has highly roasted blackened malts with some of the usual suspects of this type of malt backbone (cacao sensation, ground coffee), nothing fruity here. Hopping shines, mostly citrusy, bitterness of medium intensity. The roast and bitterness create a somewhat dry finish. Good mouthfeel with a lot of soft bubbles. My type of Black IPA, an above average example of the style. Another good growler shared at week-end long Camping Brewdown 2012, that party was so epic that it should have been narrated by Morgan Freeman.

Sampler on tap at the brewpub (Sawyer, MI). Pours a dark blackish brown hue, near opaque with glowing brownish edghes, a frothy offwhite head sits atop, laces small. Aromas are roasty malts and citrusy hops, florals, and toast. Some anise, subtle, and some good hops. Initial is medium bodied offering some ok roast and toast, a healthy citrusy hops. Grapefruit, lemons, oranges, florals cache into roast, toast, some subtle dark sweetness. A really great Black IPA, healthy hops of citrusy life with roast, toast, and a lack of body (which works in itís favor). Darker and roasty with a copious American hop slant. Finish is roasty, hoppy, lingering citrus and dryness. Very well done.

[4695-20120817] Growler. Roasted coffee ground aroma. Black body with a long-lasting creamy brown head. Roasty coffee grounds and resiny hops flavour. Full body. Quite tasty. (7/4/8/4/16) 3.9

Bottle to snifter (thanks tmoney99). Looks good; a murky dark Brown with thin beige lacing. Smells and tastes solid; malty and golly. Good on the palate too. Nice.

Bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours near black with a medium sized tan head. The aroma is green earthy and citrus hops on a base of roasted malts with some underlying cocoa. Flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, earthy and citrus hops. Overall, not too bad.

Like the name. This is my second Greenbush, and it has "IPA" on the label, so I will (as a hopeless hop-head, be critical. Looking forward to the 85 IBU. Good pour, a dark, dark brown body with a tall sudsy head that slowly vanishes in chunks, pasting gobs of lace on the glass. Itís got a resinous, zesty aroma, very little of the malt coming through. The flavor starts with the malt, a bit of dark caramel (maybe), but is soon taken over by the sharp citrus, zest and pine tastes and a sturdy, growing bitterness. (Nice.) The hefty ABV doesnít really show itself until itís in the bloodstream. Good ale. Iím not really big on Black IPAs, but this is a repeater for me.
