Bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours near black with a medium sized tan head. The aroma is green earthy and citrus hops on a base of roasted malts with some underlying cocoa. Flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, earthy and citrus hops. Overall, not too bad.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. Big, real deal Black IPA. Opaque brown-black body. Big foamy beige head. Classic black chocolate mint aroma and flavor. Big and full bodied, with some serious chocolate covered hops. While it still seems like itís on the brink of infection, this is a pretty quality offering. Chunky, thick specialty malts. Solid.

Bottle to snifter (thanks tmoney99). Looks good; a murky dark Brown with thin beige lacing. Smells and tastes solid; malty and golly. Good on the palate too. Nice.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
growler... dark brown with a light tan head, held up good for a growler... this is on the roastier spectrum for a black ipa but if you enjoy that youíre going to love this, excellent

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Kumaís. Pours a slightly murky dark brown verging on black, tan head. Nose is a blast of roast, floral hops, citrus and pine. The roast is too much for the style here. Lots of hops come across, though. On tasting, light savory roast is set aside for the strongly citrusy hop profile. Very firm bitterness enhanced by the drying roast. Clean fermentation but the roastiness is a bit distracting, keeping it from hitting the upper echelon. Solid.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Full pour and first pint had at greenbush, rated last... Pours a deeper mostly opaque dark reddish black hue. A reluctant wispy ring if light beige head rests on top... Aroma of green citrusy pine hope, lighter roast and grain on the backend. Solid and without that yeast character. Thank goodness for that... Flavors follow suit consistently with a similar hop profile with more of a firmly planted roasted malt and grain presence. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation. A slightly bitter roast finish presents itself late.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Hopleaf. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, dark brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is big, resiny and dank citruses with lots of dark chocolate and slightly ashy roasts. A few minty florals in there as well. Flavor is similar. Plenty of catty citruses and minty florals with a bunch of dark chocolates and somewhat ashy roasts. Finishes dry, roasty, resiny, and moderately bitter with lots of citruses and a nice chocolate. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium, smooth body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a really enjoyable Black IPA. Lots of citruses and pleasantly bitter with a good amount of ashy roasts, but well balanced by a nice chocolate backing. Good one.

This is a dark beer with a big foamy beige head. Some cereal grains, some of them burnt, and citrus hops in the nose. Strong grapefruit juice and pine hop flavors with some roasted grains and burnt toast flavors. There is a wet caramel sweetness. The is a full flavored, sweet hoppy beer.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
What seems to be an over carbonated bottle, settles quickly to a thin tan sheen. The pitch black color looks very much like a stout and smells spicy like root beer. The beer is very hops forward, with the maltiness lacking on the back end. I hate to say it but this could use a little more balance.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Crunchyís, East Lansing. Opaque deep brown body, thin ring of cream-colored carbonation. Nose of dry roasted malts and charred hops. Dry, creamy body, thin and acidic with huge notes of roasted coffee and hints of brown sugar and red wine. Finishes with a medley of tannic leafy hops. Quite complex.
