3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, USA - SEP 24, 2011
What seems to be an over carbonated bottle, settles quickly to a thin tan sheen. The pitch black color looks very much like a stout and smells spicy like root beer. The beer is very hops forward, with the maltiness lacking on the back end. I hate to say it but this could use a little more balance.

On tap at Greenbush Brewpub. Dark brown with ruby lowlights and thin off-white head. Aroma of cat pee, pine, resin, caramel and roasted malts. Taste is resinous with high alpha hops, lightly roasted malt, bubble gum, citrus and finishes up moderately bitter. Nice effort, I enjoyed this one!
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jstraw (1214) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 24, 2012
Draft at Jerry’s. Black with scant tan head / Earthy, bright nose of weed, coffee, and chocolate / Light to medium body, a touch watery, with very bitter finish / Simple flavors of burnt coffee and weed / Needs work.

On tsp at the Haymarket Greenbush event. Pours near black with a brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has a decent amount of dank pine hops with some underlying roasted malts. Flavor has pine up front with some growing roasted malts and dark grains.

Draft sample. Poured black color with an average frothy light brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted chocolate malt and complex hop aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy toasted bittersweet flavor with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish of medium duration. Very good brew.

12oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Overcarbonated, had to decant. Big super spicy aroma. Condensed, rich fresh spicy hops and darker malts. This has a really fun unique Black IPA flavor profile. Good restraint on the dark malt flavors and a really nice blast of piney and spicy hops. Spicy, have I said that enough. Grassy and bitter in the finish, as it should be. Dial in the carbonation and you’ve got a very fine Cascadian Dark Ale here.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Reynolds314 (781) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 13, 2012
Decent Black IPA. The hops combine for a soapy like character that Im not a huge fan of but the roasty backbone is there and the hop presence is strong.

Huge thanks to panantap for tossing in this extra, Smells like a hill farmstead beer. Good light roasty flavors. This is pretty tasty.

On tap. Pours deepest black, slightly brown around the edges, with a finger and a half of tight khaki-brown head. Nose is big grain, slightly roasted, with hints of spice, earth, and stone fruit. An awesome combination. Taste is medium sweet with some bitterness coming through. Not monstrously bitter, but rather well balanced. Palate is full, round, bright in spots with a long bitter finish with a little bite. I’ve been dying to try this and I was not disappointed. Really nice brew and I’ll surely have it again.

Black IPA with a bite. Getting some licorice. Really bitter bite. Nice head retention. Solid beer
