Taster at Standard Market, and Iím finally popping the cap on my first Greenbush beer, too. Oh, yes, Amarillo right up the nose on the first sniff. This would indeed be a beer to inspire anger. Black with some brown highlight, and a persistent stoutlike-head. Taste is hit up hard by catbox Amarillo and Simcoe, which overrides much of the malt profile. Still, I get some spiciness from wheat more than any roastiness. A very light mouthfeel makes up for the rough palate, light carbonation makes it feel almost like there was some nitro involved (which there wasnít). Alcohol starts to kick in after the second ounce, so be careful not to swig this.

The aroma is a little light at first, then hints of malts - coffee, roasty, a little smokiness then a touch of hoppiness - spruce. Pours a dark brown with a big light brown head, mostly lasting and excellent lacing. The taste is WOW - bitter; I would say smokey and rich and yummy but thatís not allowed (for me anyway). The body is medium to full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively, the finish bitter and long. Overall WOW - I am a fan of Greenbush now! Very Good!!

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark brownish black pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, some nice pine, grass, some slight orange in there as well, some slight roast. Taste is a mix of caramel, toffee, roast, coffee, hints of orange and grapefruit, finishing slightly sweet, slightly bitter.

Ok. Not exciting. Half ipa half imperial but not the way you think. Would have again.

Bottle from Binnyís in Bloomingdale, IL. Dark cola pour with a soapy tan head. Aroma is citrus and pine on top of chocolate malt. Malt-forward taste with some citrus sweetness. Solid black IPA.

Darker black body. Looks kind of like a cola. Big hop aroma with some sweetness. Lots of chocolate taste. Good amount of hop flavor. Mouthfeel similar to coke.

Like the name. This is my second Greenbush, and it has "IPA" on the label, so I will (as a hopeless hop-head, be critical. Looking forward to the 85 IBU. Good pour, a dark, dark brown body with a tall sudsy head that slowly vanishes in chunks, pasting gobs of lace on the glass. Itís got a resinous, zesty aroma, very little of the malt coming through. The flavor starts with the malt, a bit of dark caramel (maybe), but is soon taken over by the sharp citrus, zest and pine tastes and a sturdy, growing bitterness. (Nice.) The hefty ABV doesnít really show itself until itís in the bloodstream. Good ale. Iím not really big on Black IPAs, but this is a repeater for me.

On tap at Graydonís Crossing. Nice roasty nose, coffee with molasses and smoky notes. Bit of chocolate. Dark black opaque with creamy tan head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Starts moderately sweet, roasted coffee, chocolate, and molasses. Big hop flavors. Finish is chocolate and hoppy bitterness. Bitter after.

Location: Draft at Girl and the Goat, 7/5/14

Aroma: The nose is a nice mix of chocolate malts and pine/resiny hops
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a nice forth of tan/light brown head
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, nice balance, some sweetness, but leans bitter
Palate: The body is medium, it has a solid mouthfeel, smooth, with a decent dryness
Overall Impression: A very nice example of the style overall. I enjoyed this beer, and I also thought it held up well with the food at this excellent restaurant.
