Taster at Standard Market, and Iím finally popping the cap on my first Greenbush beer, too. Oh, yes, Amarillo right up the nose on the first sniff. This would indeed be a beer to inspire anger. Black with some brown highlight, and a persistent stoutlike-head. Taste is hit up hard by catbox Amarillo and Simcoe, which overrides much of the malt profile. Still, I get some spiciness from wheat more than any roastiness. A very light mouthfeel makes up for the rough palate, light carbonation makes it feel almost like there was some nitro involved (which there wasnít). Alcohol starts to kick in after the second ounce, so be careful not to swig this.

On tap, poured into a tulip. The aroma is grape jolly rancher and mild toast. The grape jolly rancher, turns to grape jelly / grape filling and dark chocolate. The beer pours a dark stout look with a filmy, sudsy, tan head that has mild lace and retention. The taste is a medium high bittersweet with slightly more bitter. The texture is oily and smooth with a fuzzy carbonation and medium full body. The flavor is at first, a grape jelly and burnt bread combination with a finish of jolly ranchers and roasted chocolate, as well as a secondary notes of molasses, toasted bread, fig, and bitter herb. The aftertaste is dry, with mild flavors of burnt toast and grape candy.

On tap at Howells & Hood. Almost black with a tan head. Aroma of hops, dark chocolate, some licorice and grapefruit. Similar taste. Nicely balanced and with a bitter finish. A tasty one.

355 cl bottle @ Timo A.
Pours dark mahogany color with a small head. Aroma is quite nice with citric fruits, some salmiac, dark malts, subtle cocoa notes too. Flavor is bitter malty, dark fruits, lemon, hops, subtle resin notes and mild grapefruits. Refreshing, leans just the right amount to the fruity side. Nice.

Bottle. Pours a deep blackish brown with a frothy tan head. Aromas are a mix of powdered chocolate and pine needles and flavor is similar with most of the kick coming from resinous piney hops in the finish. Itís very nicely balanced for a BIPA and an excellent example of the style...

Bottled 07/08/15. Just about 90 days on it. Pour into tulip, black, almost chestnut as the light shines through on the pour. Big mocha colored head, very creamy. Looks good. First whiff, I get a big piece of candied orange, or some tropical fruit, maybe pineapple, def. citrus notes. But the power of that dissipates quickly into heavy roasted malt notes. Coffee dominant, some mild chocolate. Malt is really nice. If you dig for it, the citrus is there, but itís almost more of a hoppy stout. As for flavor, the stout qualities really dominate, but this may be b/c itís 90 days past bottling, maybe fresher itíd be more citrus-y. Still not into stout territory, but getting there. Roasted malt, chocolate, mild citrus in there except for the hop bite where the hops resurface. Pretty solid mouthfeel on that bad boy. Itís a good black IPA. Is it the best? No, but itís def. something Iíd drink again.

Bottle:   Black, very nice light khaki head, fine bubbles, very sticky lacing... probably one of the better looking Black IPAs.   Spicy nose, like a spiced dark chocolate.   Smooth on the tongue, sweet roasted malts, with that dark chocolate with a hint of some sort of spice.   I want to say some sort of cinnamon and maybe some chilies.   Very interesting, and different.   Smooth on the tongue, almost full bodied.   Clean finish, soft roasted malts, a bit sweet, with the aformentioned spices.   This one is very unique, and very welcomed.   Great example!

Very dark and very good. Chocolate notes mixed with hearty hops. This is a great example of a black ipa. Must try.

This black IPA pours a giant, foamy head with a nose of anise and resiny hops. First taste is of mild tobacco and black pat malt, then fades into roasty bitterness. Head retention is good. A medium bodied brew and a solid brew. Would like more juicy hops in this to make it stand out.
