Pours dark brown almost black with aromas of chocolate and malt. Roasted malts come out very strong in this beer. Palate feel is moist and slightly sweet. Grains are very present in every aspect of this beer as is some coffee. Overall this is very tasty and quite interesting.

From notes. 12 oz bottle shared during a sharing of the Advent Calendar (not finished) on March 15. The pour is black, with a dark khaki head, and no lacing to be found. The aroma is big on a roasted coffee. Behind the roastiness, there is a nice good caramel maltiness on the back. The taste has a nice roast dominance on the front with a good chocolate presence on the back end. The mouth feel is a little thin, but it coats the mouth well. The carbonation is definitely nice, and the aftertaste is lingering and dry.

Tap at Pete’s Place. Pours black with a thick creamy head that barely moves. Leaves awesome lacing after each sip. Aromas are dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, flowers, and burnt wood. Taste is great mix of sweet creamy chocolate, bitter floral hops, and toasted wood. Very light coffee comes through on some sips too. Thick body. This stuff is awesome. Would love to try this with a barrel treatment.

Draft at Reno’s East, East Lansing. Deep opaque brown body, medium dense coffee & cream head. Nose of roast, milk chocolate, and coffee. Soft, rich body with layered roast, toasty sugars, chocolate, and coffee bean. Good depth and complexity and balance of bitter and sweet elements.

Tap and many times in a bottle: Deep brown with a small tan head and sticky lace. The aroma has notes of oat, chocolate, caramel, honey nut cereal, herbal and slightly leafy hops with some coffee and aromatics. The taste has a nice roasted character along with some bittersweet chocolate, burned toast and coffee notes. Mild bitterness from the hops and a hint of oatmeal. The mouth feel is smooth yet has an snappy finish, slightly ashy as well. Overall a solid stout without many of the extras often found in Greenbush beers.

12 ounce pour at Small Bar in Chicago. Lots of foam at top and a big bodied, creamy texture that makes it seem like an ice cream shake. I liked the smooth chocolate and roasted flavor. It didn’t have any smokiness in the taste, making it more of a dessert beverage. It’s a nice, traditional, highly drinkable oatmeal stout without any crazy bells and whistles.
