COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer was developed as a collaboration with Mark Richman, the lucky winner of the Taste of the Nation "brewer for a day" silent auction item. This is one monster of an imperial IPA, brewed with a bit of honey and beet sugar.

Wow. This is a great beer! Pours a beautiful dark Amber Brown with a nice thick head. Smells sweet, brown sugar and citrus notes. This is a marvelous imperial ipa, sweet malts at the start give way for a nice hoppy middle, and a sour citrusy finish. Citrus tones float throughout the drink starting out sweet with the malts in the beginning and finishing off sour and satisfying at the end. This beer finds the sweet spot between delicious malty beer flavor and refreshing, thirst quenching ipa finish. This is a gem, and one of my all-time favorites. Up there with Lagunitas Maximus.

Bottle. Hazy, rich amber with team head in glass. Some webbing. Tropical fruit, pine resin and berries lead the nose. Earthy malts below. Inviting, although distinct for style. Taste is more to expectation, which was nice, but a little disappointing: I wanted to see where that nose was going! Carmel malts, citrus hops, dull honey. Bitter on finish. Good.

not sure if this deserves the super high rating. the strong alcohol ruins it for me. bitter malty finish and almost no citrus flabor. had a bottle pour at haymarket. pours copper in color with a tan head.

This was a very drinkable and well-made IIPA. There is a bit of chalk on the tongue but aside from that, this is an excellent beer from a very nice brewery.

Bottle: Cloudy, amber brown with a small tan head. Sweet, fruit cocktail aroma....caramel. Taste is bitter...fruit, resin, peels...thick caramel malt. Alcohol is well hidden, but comes up some as it warms. Nicely smooth overall for the ABV.

Bottle. Orange caramel malt and grapefruit peel aroma. Amber with moderate head. Sweet orange-caramel malt and moderately bitter grapefruit and pine flavor. Nicely blended.

Nephilium (1346) - Ohio, USA - JUL 14, 2014
Strong caramel aroma, with pine and tropical fruit hop notes. Pours a hazy amber with a full white head. This is a big hop bomb, with quite a bit of caramel malt sweetness. Starts off with the sweet notes, then the hops start stepping up fading to a lingering bitter finish. Itís a bit light in body, with a slightly slick mouthfeel. Overall, this is an impressive IIPA.

Pours an amber that is closer to brown with a yellowish head. Pretty malty for a DIPA. The hop presence is muted. Creamy in texture. Bitterness in the back. Can feel the alcohol to it. Not bad, but not sure it lived up to the hype.

bottle - This brew has an aroma of citrus and resinous hops. The flavor is similar with the citrus and resin accented hops dominating the caramel malt. Itís intensely bitter with full bodied malt. Itís strong and very good though doesnít quite jump out like some of the top beers in the style.

Bottle dated 6/9/14 poured into a Duvel tulip. Appearance-Pours a deep crimson amber with an inch and a half of off white head that leaves moderate to heavy lacing. Aroma-The beer smells of pine resin, tropical fruit, burnt caramel, honey, and a little alcohol. Taste-Right away you taste pine. It is quickly met with super sweet caramel, tropical fruit (mango, papaya, pineapple), and honey. You can taste some alcohol as well. Palate-This beer is sticky. The flavors stay in your mouth and do not leave easily. The alcohol is on the stronger side and very evident. Overall-I like this beer. I do not feel that it lives up to all the comparisons to hopslam, however I did not expect it either. I was seeking a complex and well rounded DIPA, and for the most part, I feel that I have found it.
