3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted on 5/6/13 from a capped 12oz bottle sent to me in the Easter Bunny BIF. Pours cloudy brown with a very thick off-white head that slowly recedes to thick and rocky lace. The nose is full of resin, floral, grassy, and touch of tropical fruit hops, with some nice caramel malt and a touch of bread as the backbone. The flavor is a bit more malty with plenty of caramel and brown sugar, with the resin and grassy hops on the back of the palate. The body is fairly full with average carbonation and a very long malty and nicely bitter finish. This a nice, fairly malt forward, Double IPA.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled 08/20/15. Pours golden dark honey color, white head, really pretty. Aroma is boozy, dank hops, pine, light tropical pineapple, honey, sweet sugar. Flavor is wow, sweet sugar, that beet sugar is there. Definitely quite a bit of heat, burns the back of the throat, mild pine and some pineapple citrus notes. Wow, basically a barleywine. Bit of a bitter finish, that intensifies a bit, but never gets unpleasant. I like it. Feels like I could age it a bit and it would be fine.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from the four pack of bottles, looks brown with some red in the back round, foamy white collar. There are a lot of hops in here but the sweetness is unsettling, I was expecting an imperial IPA not another style. I would guess the suggestion is that Benjamin was schizophrenic, where he lives his life as an IPA but has many characteristics of a barley wine. Life can be complicated like that.

12oz bottle pours a thick brown color with a bit of head. Total malt bomb. Smooth and nice hop balance. Alcohol well hidden.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Lightly hazed umber color with a smooth, creamy looking taupe colored head. Good retention. Heavy caramels and malts mingle with earthy hops. Scents of light herbs and spices. Smells a bit more like a hoppy barley wine, but I won’t complain. Sweet start with light fruit, and citrus. Pine and apricot mingle. Finish is fairly short and linger is hot and bitter. Much more an American strong or barley wine. But I still enjoyed it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle the better half brought back from Michigan. True love. Copper color with thin white head. Nose is sharp hops with intial taste much smoother than expected. A hint of the high booze content. Very tasty.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Great double ipa. Almost like a fresh hopslams style brew. Very enjoyable with the honey balance.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Orange mahogany with an ample tan head. Unsurprising strong floral, honey notes, tangerine. Fairly bitter, though quickly overwhelmed by cloying sweetness. Transitions to a more typical biscuity malt finish, though the initial sweetness still persists throughout. Very oily, medium body. Quite upfront alcohol. Not much carbonation. Not particularly well balanced, though not without some interesting flavors.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A full light tan head on a dense copper/orange body. Nose features citrus hops, alcohol and malt. This is a nice mix of hops and biscuity malt. The hops morph through a wide range of tastes, including citrus, citrus rind, floral, and a heavier earthier hops finish. The honey and sweet malts balance off the hops well. The medium to thick body and 10.1% abv make this DIPA a real east-coast style meal.
