COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer was developed as a collaboration with Mark Richman, the lucky winner of the Taste of the Nation "brewer for a day" silent auction item. This is one monster of an imperial IPA, brewed with a bit of honey and beet sugar.

Hmm - a Double IPA brewed with honey, from a Michigan brewery - sounds a lot like the famed Hopslam. While it has some strong similarities and is pretty good in its own right, it does fall a bit short. Pours a hazy orange-amber with a medium head. Fairly mild aroma, earthy and hoppy with a sweet malt undernote. The flavor is far more assertive and hop-forward - more floral/pine than citrus, and quite bitter. Thereís a nice sweetness, but itís not totally in balance with the aggressive hops. Still, a pretty good beer.

Bottle, came in 4pk. Aroma of...oh hell. Itís a double IPA. Itís like several dozen other imperial IPAs / double IPAs that are floating around out there. Itís pretty good. Maybe sweeter than most and a bit heavy. High abv, so watch out. I donít think Iíll buy again so long as itís more expensive than many similar or better beers.

12oz bottle via Mystery Box BIF. Pours a translucent, burnt orange with some lacing, thin white head. Nose is very old school DIPA, big pithy orange, grapefruit, gobs of fresh pine sap, soap. Flavor has the honey sweetness, a bit boozy actually, orange grapefruit, loads of pine, soap, some candy, a little artificial lemon. Full bodied, sticky finish. A little heat from the alcohol too.

Nice floral notes, strong ABV but the great hoppy taste covers it nicely. Hard to describe, but taste is different than typical DIPAís (in a good, unique way). Good find.

Dark copper color with some cloudiness. Sweet aroma of both malt and honey, plus the hops. Aroma reminds me more a barley wine than a double IPA. A lot of sweetness in the taste, along with the malt and hops. Overall a fairly good beer, though definitely going for power over subtlety; still a reasonable level of complexity and some balance between the hops, malt and honey.

From a bottle. Smells a lot like pine and Orange. Very strong taste. Honey sweetness on the end with alcohol lingering.

Bottled. Poured cloudy, deeper amber with a creamy, sticky off-white head.. looked great! The aroma picked up juicy oranges and lighter-skinned fruits joined by spruce and peppery alcohol.. honey showed up as it warmed.. nice. The flavor found honey and biscuity malts at the core, with peppery notes and pine resin laced throughout.. picked up some beet sugars along with honey on the spicy finish. Heavier-bodied and filling on the palate.. hot at times, but tasty.

12 oz bottle is marked "MFG 07.28.14". Iím getting to this just over a month later. Pours a translucent caramel orange with a lasting white head that leaves moderate lacing and a rocky wisp of head. Aroma is ... diacetyl hops - missed it by a few weeks. Also honey sweetness with tropical fruit. Flavor is same with diacetyl rust over honey pineapple sweetness, grapefruit bitterness and slight pine. Medium bodied, full carbonation, bitter finish.

Pours a dark amber. Low carbonation with a thin lacy head. Sweet malt aroma. Mostly alcohol taste with malt and light traditional hops. Light hops aftertaste with a sticky mouthfeel.

Bottle. Hazy, rich amber with team head in glass. Some webbing. Tropical fruit, pine resin and berries lead the nose. Earthy malts below. Inviting, although distinct for style. Taste is more to expectation, which was nice, but a little disappointing: I wanted to see where that nose was going! Carmel malts, citrus hops, dull honey. Bitter on finish. Good.

not sure if this deserves the super high rating. the strong alcohol ruins it for me. bitter malty finish and almost no citrus flabor. had a bottle pour at haymarket. pours copper in color with a tan head.
