3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hmm - a Double IPA brewed with honey, from a Michigan brewery - sounds a lot like the famed Hopslam. While it has some strong similarities and is pretty good in its own right, it does fall a bit short. Pours a hazy orange-amber with a medium head. Fairly mild aroma, earthy and hoppy with a sweet malt undernote. The flavor is far more assertive and hop-forward - more floral/pine than citrus, and quite bitter. There’s a nice sweetness, but it’s not totally in balance with the aggressive hops. Still, a pretty good beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled 08/20/15. Pours golden dark honey color, white head, really pretty. Aroma is boozy, dank hops, pine, light tropical pineapple, honey, sweet sugar. Flavor is wow, sweet sugar, that beet sugar is there. Definitely quite a bit of heat, burns the back of the throat, mild pine and some pineapple citrus notes. Wow, basically a barleywine. Bit of a bitter finish, that intensifies a bit, but never gets unpleasant. I like it. Feels like I could age it a bit and it would be fine.
