2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle @ Crooked Stave ROY-G-BIV Day. Pours a copper orange appearance with an off white head. Somewhat herbal, orange citrusy hoppy, a bit toasty malty aroma. The hops seemed kind of dull in the flavor, so I kind of wonder about the age of the beer. There was some decent citrus notes but I would really like to try this one again fresh.

1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle: Murky brown, nearly opaque... Looks like a swamp or dirty shit-water. Lots of floating sediment; foamy, fine, lasting khaki head on top. Aroma has notes of pungently sweet grapefruit rind, spice, white pepper, herbaceous & earthy leaves, honey, a nebulous tartness, heavy caramel, residual sugars, baked bread. What the hell is going on here? Smells like a malt-heavy DIPA, tastes like a malt-ONLY DIPA. Insanely huge malt bill shows itself immediately; sticky caramel, sweetbread, & honey scream out with cries of unattenuation. Hops flavors are merely an afterthought - herbal, ashy, & spicy - yet the finish is filled with an intense bitterness (despite the all-around heavy malt sweetness). Notes of extremely bitter citrus peel & grapefruit pith. Apparent booze, growing fusel with time. Bitter finish, still lingering with a caramely, thick mouth coating. This beer is all over the place, not very good at all.
Tap: I was about 96% sure the bottle I had was fresh. But just to be safe, I tried this beer again when I saw it on tap. I can assure you I will never make that mistake again. This beer is just not good. Or perhaps just not at all what Iím looking for when I wanít a "DIPA". I really donít understand the love for this beer, Greenbush has plenty of better offerings (cheaper ones, too).

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Cloudy light brown that pours within a medium head. Very malty, almost like a scotch ale or strong ale. Lasting finish with alcohol warmth. A good strong beer.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured a very nice copper color in my snifter with a very thick creamy head. The mouthfeel is very creamy. Lots of fruit and grapefruit notes on both the nose and the palate. At 10.1%, this could sneak up on you! The honey does not come through as much as I thought it would. Slight hints of pepper can be found in the after taste. What a great iipa!

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle @ Richardís Tasting. Hazed copper pour with a white head. Interesting vanilla aroma, lots of orange, some pine, and a bit of sweet caramel. Light grass and bread. Taste is a bit sweeter than Iíd like, but good vanilla and bread. Nice orange character, a bit of pine bitterness, and mild grass.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very nicely glowing amber coloured body with copper, orange and peach highlights, all with a thinnish, one centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of bright hops - citrus, grapefruit and a touch of resin. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong hop notes at first with quite a bit of malt, all balanced with a touch of pineapple and tropical fruit sweetness, a bit of earthiness and a subdued alcohol burn. Aftertaste shows a nice balanced taste with the majority of flavours going to the hops, naturally, all with some pineapple sweetness, a bit of pine bitterness and a little earthiness. Overall, a great imperial IPA with some deep flavours but nothing bitter nor offensive - all with a complex set of hops and a solid malt profile. Definitely worth trying if you can find it! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchantís in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-August-2013 for US$3.79 sampled on the train to New York on 31-October-2013.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Greenbush is a consistently underrated brewery, and this DIPA is one that should not be missed. A strong hop is tempered by a dose of sweet, refreshing honey that makes this one easy to get through. Great out of the bottle, but do yourself a favor and head to Sawyer, MI to get this one on tap. Youíll be happy you did.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Loads of smooth caramel balanced with both citrus and floral hop bitterness. Brown sugar, orange, grapefruit, sweet honey, rich bread and hints of vanilla cream. Undertones of banana, orange cream and almonds. Incredibly complex aroma matches the flavors. Creamy mouthfeel. Aftertaste of grapefruit. Very impressive brew.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a murky brown with a finger of beige head. Nose and taste are dank sticky fruity sweet. A bit over carbed on the mouth feel, a bit boozy, but itís pretty good, and getting the job done...

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From bottle. Solid IPA! Light floral nose. Dense gold color. Good layer of lasting head. Quick, strong bite of hops at front of sip followed by floral/honey quickly after, more flavor of honey than actual sweetness. Full body. Complex without being overpowering. ABV is very well - camouflaged.

I've slowly been starting to enjoy IPA's more over the last year or so. Still not my go-to style, but I'm definitely sampling some quality brews! This beauty packs a wallop and it's a double IPA!
