3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle. Deep amber with one finger head. As pumpkin beers go, this is pretty decent. Reasonable malt body with spice and light booze.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, 2013 bottling. Pours moderately cloudy orange copper color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of pumpkin, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, gingerbread, brown sugar, caramel, pear, toast, and herbal earthiness. Ok aromas with solid complexity and balance of malt, pumpkin, and spice notes; with decent strength. Taste of pumpkin, sourdough bread, ginger, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, brown sugar, caramel, toast, floral, and herbal earthiness. Light earthy/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pumpkin, sourdough bread, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, brown sugar, caramel, toast, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a while. Decent flavor balance and complexity of malt, pumpkin, and spice notes; with a solid malt/spice balance and minimal cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is ok. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a decent pumpkin ale. Flavor profile is weird at first; but smooths out a bit after the first sip. A bit of flavor astringency as well, but I had no problem finishing the glass.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at Greenbush brewery. Hazy amber with a thin tan crown. Aroma is spicy with pumpkin, nutmeg and pale malt. Taste is grainy with roasted malts, mace, nutmeg and some other odd flavors. Kinda chalky on the finish and could use a little more sweetness.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle thanks to Another6Pack. Thanks, Trent!
A hazy red looking brew, the pour brought about an inch of foam and has lots of lacing.
The nose is as good as any pumpkin beer Iíve tried. Pumpkin with the spices...nutmeg and cinnamon up front with a touch of alcohol.
The taste doesnít live up to the smell but thatís pretty typical for a PA. Cinnamon is tops to my palate, nutmeg follows but the whole pumpkin thingy doesnít quite mesh out. Some alcohol is in the taste as well. I also get more than hints of black cherry thatís more of a bitterish flavour than a sour one.
Nice mouthfeel, itís kind of a slow drinker for me. Interesting brew that doesnít quite hit the mark.

2.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Amber colored beer with an orangeish head. Has a smell of nutmeg, cinnamon, and ripe banana. Taste is bitter and the combination of of spices is pretty harsh. Too bad the beer isnít as good as its name.

1.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
UPDATED: DEC 1, 2013 Bottle: burnt, hazy copper with some lighter amber-orange hints near the bottom; large, chunky beige head lasts for a while & leaves nice spots of fat lacing all down the glass. Aroma is heavily spiced; moderate nutmeg, cinnamon, & clove with a hefty dose of toasted malts, brown sugar, & sweet molasses. I puck up some light red apple & lemon rind notes somewhere in there, too, bordering on small but sharp tartness in the finish. Taste is kind of yammy up front with the excpected spices of nutmug & clove, lighter on the cinnamon. Some brown sugar notes fade into a strong, mid-palate bitterness that comes along with ashy leaves & mild, charred tobacco... what ?! Spicy cinnamon & nutmeg finish, still with a lasting, strong bitterness. Mild metallic notes, too. Yikes... smells alright, but the flavor was a deal breaker. Not so keen on it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pour from a 12oz bottle. Cloudy copper brew with a tan head. Big aroma of nutmeg and cinnamon with some pumpkin present. Taste is nicely sweet at the start with building spice, a little fruity sour towards the middle. Finish is has a complex spciness and rich pumpkin flavor. I usually would not go for something this dominated by spice, but here the spice is like fresh ground and the complexity and balance is especially nice. Also the sweeter malt base really balances this.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. This is one fine beer. Fall in a glass. Stays away from the typical overly spiced sweet nutmeggy profile and goes right at a rye, hoppy, piney pumpkin melange. Aroma is a bold rye spiciness, and the pumpkin flavor dances around, coming quietly in and out between more pine hops and rye. Finishes clean and dry, again differing itself from the usual sweet finish of most of these seasonals. Well done.
