COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Special - 2009
Drinkers in Cambridge are being invited to toast the university’s 800th anniversary with a pint of ale brewed specially for the occasion. The beer, named "1209" after the year of the university’s foundation, is based on the type of medieval brew that would have been available to scholars when they arrived in Cambridge 800 years ago. It is "a traditional recipe that has been updated for modern palates", according to John Bexon, its creator and Greene King’s head brewer.

Cambridge I think! Clear brown beer, light tan head. Softish dry palate. Very light toffee in the malt. Repressed apple. Touch of hop in the finish. Usual Greene King!

Cask at the Anchor, Cambridge, 21st Oct 09. Dark amber with some white lacy head. Not much aroma, just some rough hops. Quite toffeeish malt. Glad I tried (for the university connection) but really it’s average GK quality.

Red-brown in colour, with cherries and hops in the nose. Slightly bitter. Cherries and citrus in the mouth and some cereals. Quite nice.
