Copper with a small but lasting white head. Caramel malty aroma with some grassy hops. Sweet and smooth, some caramel and butterscotch but balanced by the fresh hoppy bitterness.

Cask at The Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham, 28/09/07. Clear amber with a little head. Aroma is mainly malt and alcohol, some hops. The alcohol comes through in the taste too and warms the finish. There’s a persistent fruity aftertaste. Overall, this is a solid if unspectacular ale. It’s a workhorse of a brand for GK and a "good port in a storm" when there’s little variety of ale on offer, but unlikely to ever be anyone’s favourite ale.

Clearish straight amber covered by a small white head. Almost salty, surprisingly hoppy, grassy nose in which the softly toasty, fruity (peach) malts let the hops’ expansion take place. Development kept on in mouth, the bitterness is quite restrained and soft, mineral. A fine, available anywhere, go-to ale when you’re stuck in a place with a poor range.

Cask. At The Sherlock Holmes, near Trafalgar Square, London. Slightly hazy copper pour with a smallish lasting creamy head. Dry, moderately sweet light roast malt aroma, some soft yeast notes, light sweet grassy hops. The taste follows, more hop bitterness, herbal and grassy, the malt seems a tad nutty, and the hop bitterness lasts surprisingly long, even it is is very restrained. The body is creamy and average thickness, light carbonation and astringency appropriate to a cask bitter, with a decently long light herbal linger. A very decent session pint, and in pretty good shape.
