UPDATED: MAR 12, 2013 Wow!

Dull amber. Plasticy aroma and lots of caramel lameness. Palate is buttery, lightly caramelly, sweet - not much to recommend about this bog standard. Not a satisfying beer.

Pours deep amber with orange highlights and a finger of soapy white head. The nose is of orange, marmalade and rich malts, with some subdued aromas of peach and ginger. In the mouth one firsts finds the bittersweet malt character, with developing breadiness. Orange peel and cinnamon add a light spice. It’s thin bodied and near flat, with an oily feel and finishes with a bitterness. A standard sort of beer, not offensive but in no way special.

Cask Abbot Ale, a nice fruity taste, lovely aroma, and just the right amount of hops. Goes down a treat after a good Sunday Lunch at your local. The challenger hops with fuggles make this a true ale to savour. My favourite ale by far of all time.

From the Garrick Arms in London. Poured a clear dark amber with a good off-white head. Nose of sweet roasted malts, with some ripe fruit. Medium body, low in carbonation leading to a very smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is of roasted malts with some nuts. Light bitter finish. Good.

The best beer Greene King brew by a country mile. Good balance of malt and hops with some distinctive notes. Shame so few of their pubs sell it these days.
