3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gary (1132) - Rochester, Kent, ENGLAND - MAR 24, 2011
(Bottled) "Oh no, Greene King" , that’s what my tastebuds usually think if im about to drink one of their dusty ass beers , but this was not bad if you ignore the skuny aroma. Flavours are deep toffee malt , cakey richness , with some raisin notes . Muddy , earthy hops and some strange palsticine taste . Some peppery booze on the dry’ish finish. Found myself feeing this was better than their usuall offerings.

500ml bottle - a nice strong copper coloured beer, bit of a fizzy white head. Got a good hit of toffe and vanilla in the nose, bit of fruit, bit of sugar. A bit of a syrupy texture to the mouthfeel, a bit of boozy fruit, and a lasting aftertaste. Surprisingly good.

A Mes rate: Cask at Baker Street ’Sporks. Deep dark amber with a reasonable off white foamy head. Heavy sweetness to the aroma. Strong caramel, marzipan, sweet malt and something reminding me very much of Kola Kube sweets I used to have as a kid. I actually really like the smell. The flavour however is a different story. The sweetness that worked well in the aroma does not translate well at all in the mouth for me. Fruity, sweet malt, medicinal and close to cloying. Very close to being really tasty, it’s just much too sweet.

From cask at Charlies. Pours clear and golden deep orange with a small white head. Fruity hops and mild roasted caramel malt aroma. Sweet ad rather fruity flavoured. Holds a decent caramel malt base. Leads into a mild acidic/citric bitterness with a mild spice hoppy note alongside. Rather biter finish with a light phenolic touch. Quite fruity lasting far finish.
