[Cask at Monk’s Retreat (JDW), Reading] Amber-brown with a cream soap-sud head. Toffee, farmyard sweepings and farts. Rather oily. Poor even by GK’s standards.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 12, 2012
Brewed exclusively for the 2011 Wetherspoon Spring beer festival, according to the blurb in the tasting notes: which is when I took these notes.
Challenger and First Gold hops give this beer a great hoppy aroma and taste.
The clear amber body and thin white head look good and the dry aftertaste and bitterness given by the aforementioned hop content produce a very fine beer indeed.
I am not a huge fan of this brewery in general, but this and some other beers they brew are in fact very good.

Nice spicy aroma and flavor of hops and malt. The caramel tone in the malt is vague, which I like, and hop aromas appears well in the taste. Tasty and easy to drink!

Cask at pub in London. A pretty decent beer. Nice dark golden colour, and a good head.

Cask Handpump at the Penny Black JDW, Northwich 08/04/2011
Floral malt aroma. White head. Bronze coloured and smooth on the palate with some alcohol present. Bitter malty and slightly peppery flavoured in the finish.

30th March 2011 JDW Fest. Clear amber beer, bubbly white head. So can Greene King brew something resembling a proper IPA? Semi dry palate. Fresh malt. Detectable hops - mild citrus and a whisper of peach. Dry finish. Much better than it’s little brother but nothing to excited about.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 sm89walt (1419) - Norwich, Norfolk, ENGLAND - APR 16, 2011
Cask - The Bell Hotel (JDW), Norwich. Clear ruby body & a small though lasting beige head leaving some lacework. Light & sweet perfumey fruits and yeast on the nose. Biscuity, some caramel, yeast & a subtle bitterness. Soft medium-ish body, short finish leaving a stale fruit tang. Unremarkable & nothing standout to indicate its ABV.

Cask, the Francis newton. Chestnut appearance. Spicey caramel aroma. Sweet stone fruit flavour. Slight alcohol hint on the finish.

Hand pulled at Wetherspoons (under the Central Library), Birmingham. Beautiful appearance: nice russett colour and firm head. Thought this would be poor, but really it’s fairly average. Flavour of sweet UK malt, with a little bitterness. Strength is warming on the finish, which perks things up a little bit. OK.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Leighton (4100) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 2, 2011
Cask at the Tyburn, JDW. Light, hazy gold pour with a creamy cap. Bland, light bread noce. Oof, this beer tastes weird/bad. Either a terrible beer or or terrible conditioning - or both. Messy malts, faint sugar, no bitterness. Watery. Medium in body with flat carbonation. Light dough and water on the finish with some sugars. Wow. Quite bad. I hope this is just an off-day.
