ChristianScheffel (4431), Odense, Denmark Jul 22, 2007 Amber with a big off-white head. Malt aroma with grassy and floral hops. Sweet malty flavour with some balancing bitterness. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 22, 2007 Nice copper, with a loose foamy head on top. Very bubbly. Sweet, fruity woodsy aroma. Sweet and caramelly at first, then a restrained hop finish, perhaps a bit musty tasting. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 20, 2007 Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and Blankboy, Paul’s bottle from England. Medium rusty copper, small bubbly orange like head. Bready, tinny metallic aroma. Taste is ok - very thin foamy body, metallic hops, mild malt. I’ll take the Abbot in cans any day over this, boring and uninspired. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jul 17, 2007 Bottle (500ml). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, blankboy’s bottle from England. Clear reddish-amber, average frothy head. Sweet light malt aroma, floral hops that get a little funky with warming, a little apricot. Taste - interesting - some dry bitter herbal hops, but mostly tart rhubarb and peach. Thin body, harshly bitter, quick finish but an unfortunate sour aftertaste. Not very good. "IPA" - pfahh! Tmoney99 (4663), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jul 14, 2007 500ml Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured clear dark copper color with an average white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate tart citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium bittersweet hoppy flavor with a smooth bitter finish of average duration. Solid drinkable flavorful brew. downender (2538), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Jul 13, 2007 Bottle. Deep amber coloured with slight head. Aroma was fruity with a touch of sweetness. Flavour was subdued with some more fruit and a bitter finish. Ok. HogcliffeLenny (162), Christchurch, Dorset, England Jul 8, 2007 Bottle 500ml. Good amber pour but the head was thin. I detected a weak hoppy aroma on opening, but little else. To be honest, this ale really does struggle in the flavour department. Some nutty malts coming through but also a metallic background. The IPA badge is misleading, as it is far closer to being a bitter. I also found it quite thin and a little watery. cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA Jun 8, 2007 I realize that English IPA’s are more subtle but sheesh this is rediculous. I’d say classification as a bitter is more like it. Bottle states an abv of 5.0%. Mild aroma of malt and cardboard. Real good looking chestnut pour with a half-inch head and great lacing. Mouthfeel is filling and creamy, aftertaste and finish have an oily chemical feel. Mild taste, not much doing. Dominated by the malt with a tinge of bitter hops. Not much else to say about this one, decent drink but IPA...I don’t think so.
