3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 neilrichards (191) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - AUG 19, 2002
Decent bitter. Easy drinking, with a good smooth body, and a hoppy flavour.

Drank this while visiting England in 2000. In defense of the beer, I had it in a nitrogen can ... never a good start. I thought that this brew (aside from the frequently commented departure from style) was as unremarkable as any beer I have ever tasted. I would like to try it fresh on cask for a re-rate. But steer clear of the nitro cans.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2003 [on cask, white hoss, oxford] Even though this doesn't match up to my idea of an IPA, I really like it. It's just really pleasant, fresh and flowery, light and easy to drink (not in the sense of 'easy listening' - damn they dont have double inverted commas on brit keyboards). Not really very bitter but just bitter enough to be balanced. Slight walnutty malt character, and an earthy, fat floral finish. rer8: out of the can this is pretty bland but what did you expect. still ok, im leaving the original 3.5 for the cask cause it looks like this one can use all the support it can get round here.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 kmeves (1098) - Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 26, 2002
Not really hoppy enough for an IPA. Slight sweetness, mild hop and malt character. Really reminds me of a amber Boddington’s Pub Ale if there was such a thing. Probably better out of the cask. Still a very drinkable beer, however.

Sure it’s not a classical IPA, but it’s easy drinkin’ and tasty

No not an IPA. An english pale/bitter ale. Dark amber color with minimal head. Very mild floral hop aroma. Caramael malt flavor with a minimal hop flavor to balance. An average pale ale at best.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Nuffield (3090) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - JUN 2, 2002
’Is this an IPA?’... my first reaction to this beer, and I was glad to hear I am not alone. This is essentially just a mild ale, lacking any hoppy bitterness, making it an extremely poor example of the style. Terrible feel in mouth as well. The lone credit might be for its easy drinkability, but that’s not much. (from a cask, Hungry Horse pub in Crowmarsh Gifford, Oxfordshire)
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 choochcat (5) - ENGLAND - MAY 15, 2002 does not count
one of the berst english ales when kept properly. A beautiful dark amber brew that’s not really an IPA, but is a wonderfully pleasurable, intensely hoppy experience. Try it in East Anglia on tap, not from a bottle in New York, please!
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 winkle (456) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - APR 20, 2002
Quite drinkable, soft mouthfeel but really needs more hops.
