SilkTork (3794), Rochester, Kent, England Aug 25, 2006 Updated: May 27, 2007 Augest, 2006The Kestrel, Lordswood. Tasty. A good malty beer. Lacks the sweetness, depth, character and strength of the old Hen, but is a drinkable best bitter in its own right. OK. [3.0]
May, 2007The Eagle, Cambridge Sweet, smooth, and with a twig of character. Nice. I’ve had this many times since last August (The Kestrel being the only pub where I work), and I do acknowledge that it is a tasty drop. [3.8]
M0RHI (988), Luxembourg, Luxembourg Jun 30, 2008 Cask at the Eden Arms, Doncaster. Ruby with a thin white head. Malty with none of the spirit burn and robustness of the old one. Mouth is similar, flimsy, some toffee and malt, bit of something fruity. An abomination of what this used to be. bobinlondon (215), Harrow, Greater London, England Jun 21, 2008 Handpulled cask at The Speckled Hen, St. Albans. Dark brown/ red with thin bubbly white head. Sweet and malty with a slight twang of caramel. Not much hops in the finish. Prefere the bottled version. wyzzywyz22 (243), Wirral, Merseyside, England Jun 9, 2008 Cask, George Inn. I seem to recall the original version of this being a lot better than this effort. Copper colour with a small white head. Aroma is sweetish, not much else to say about it. Malty flavour with a hint of caramel. Dreary stuff and lacking in any punch. Why make this beer weaker ? I just don’t get it. I normally steer well clear of Greene King beers anyway, but went for this due to lack of choice. Sad they felt the need to water this down. greenmanalishi (177), Leicestershire, England May 11, 2008 better off getting the bottle, this was weak and incredibly lifeless when i had it. rubbish. wheresthepath (192), Buckinghamshire, England May 9, 2008 [On draught in Great Expectations, Reading] Uncarbonated. Hoppy, malty and very bitter, but balanced with a hint of caramel. Easy drinking but unremarkable
