Bottle. Pale amber with a residual head. Aroma of leather. Taste is malts and fruity with a touch of yeast. A little too much carbonation. Not the best, dull.

Clear bottle. Pours a light gold with a quickly fading white head. Smells lightly hoppy with a little fruit sweetness. Slight banana, tangerine. Taste is a bit bland, but there’s a little toffee and biscuit along with some light banana. Too much carbonation and it’s killing it somewhat. Finish is lacklustre.

Feb 2008: Specially brewed to be served cooler, it is almost 0 degrees in my garage this evening, so cold this beer was! Clear 500ml bottle, coded Best Before Date, which I couldn’t crack. Poured into a Corsendonk tulip galss twice, because that’s how I fancied it. Looked fine, clear with some carbonisation rising through the light amber body to join the foaming white head. The head fell away just a little to swiftly for my likeing which was a pity. The aroma was very yeasty and hoppy with sour citrus flavours in the mix. Lemons and grapefruit citrus taste, a bit sharp for my tastebuds. Crisp and refreshing, but to much of a sour bitter twang for me. I had to have some Olives and Wholemeal bread to help me down the second glass of this beer. I won’t slag it off, but there isn’t a great amount I liked about this beer. 4.2% is no big shakes but you would expect a bit of a kick and body wouldn’t you? Maybe it was the coldness, but this wasn’t a great experience and I won’t be repeating it.

ALLOVATE (2142) - Butler, AUSTRALIA - APR 27, 2012
Medium amber, bright and thinly looking with sparse carbonation and no head. Smells of sticky toffee and boiled rhubarb, marmalade conserve and stale hops. Quite biting in carbonation, gassy in the stomach. Dull malt and staling, dusty hops, light caramelised citrus fruit, rust, cardboard and a drying sensation similar to sucking on toothpicks define it. Light, watery thin body. Nothing much else. Forgettable! (50cL, no date stamp, Cellarbrations Kinross)

500ml bottle. Pours gold with a large frothy head. Aroma has a little skunky lemon, grass and biscuit malt. Taste has some biscuit and grass to start. Sharp lemon and butter in the finish.

It has a soapy sourness, but is a distinctively Greene King brewed real ale.

Quite a ’green’, hoppy aroma. Smooth, easy to drink texture. Flavour has just a light maltiness. It’s a fresh, hoppy beer with a mildly bittersweet finish and hints of citrus fruits.

50cl bottle from ABCBeers. Thin almost non-existent head. Clear golden/amber pour. Ok tasting beer.

Bottle (500ml):
Sweet with some hops and light citrus notes. I also got some vanilla and butterscotch off this one along with sweet malts.
Bright amber with white head that turns to a soapy lacing pretty fast.
Very sweet upfront with lots of butterscotch and a little bit of citrus but not a whole lot else really. This taste is rather one dimensional and plain.
Quite light bodied with low to mild carbonation and a slight bit of bitterness right at the finish which is also dry.

A pretty basic, ordinary ale that was okay at best. It was pretty sweet tasting but there weren’t too many different flavours to be honest.
