Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Marketed in the United States as Olde Suffolk.
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.

Brown beer with a disappearing off-white head; malty aroma with caramel and a wee bit of dried fruit; flavor is woody with some sweetness and a bit of paper napkin; finish is slightly sweet and bitter, with a bit of metallic. Maybe I have a bum bottle or a bum tongue today, but this bottle is not that good. I may try it again...someday.

Dark brown in colour. With a smell of flowery hops. It was smooth with a bitter aftertaste.

Bottle at the Fox and Parrot. Pours a muddy brown with no head. The aroma is certainly malt-heavy with suggestions of toffee, licorice, and some wood. The mouthfeel is creamy. The flavor hints at pleasant toffee, wood, apples, crisped rice chocolate bars, then bittersweetness develops in the finish. It’s something of a mix of dark chocolate and watered down Scotch. Pretty good drink.

500 ml bottle, bought at Sainsbury´s, Newhaven. Dark ruby color, nice beige head. Aroma is dark/dried fruit and roasted/sweet malt. Flavor is the same, but also oak, some hoppy bitterness and a lovely sweetness. Very nice.

Nice dark color with a creamy head. Had the slightest hint of fruitcake. Rich flavor from the oak barrel it was fermented in. Great dessert beer.

From a 500 ml bottle this poured a dark ruby color with large tan head and good lacing. Nose is ripe fruits and rich malts. Good rich mouthfeel. Flavor is of roasted malts, fruits, and spices. Woody and somewhat bitter finish. Tastes a little like madeira. wine, and was very good to drink.

Pours a dark amber with a nice off white head. Aroma has an oakish note with caramel malt and fruit. Flavor is a oakish character and malty with a nice warming finish.
