Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Marketed in the United States as Olde Suffolk.
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.

Dark red off white head diminishing. Aroma of Christmas pudding (with brandy). Strong malt alcohol taste. Feels quite thick and lasting. A distinctive beer for late nights in front of the fire (or PC). I could only manage the one. (Or two

Bottle. Pours a clear brown/amber with a small light tan head that fades to a ring and leaves some lacing. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit, slightly burnt toffee, and a hint of chocolate. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium thin slightly watery mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. Very good.

Drool. I love "liquid bread" effects from beer and this one has it all. Above-average in most departments: head, body quality, flavor, color, aroma and mouthfeel. A good drinking experience.

The aroma features dark fruit, oak, vanilla and a very lightly tart vinous note. Fairly strong caramel notes as well. The body is a dark amber tinted brown and holds a pinky sized off white head that is mostly diminishing. Big malty fore features caramel, toffee and mild chocolate notes. A touch watery, but on the whole the flavor concentration is high. Strong hints of raisin and plumb in the finish. Very pumpernickel-y with only a mild tinge of bitterness in the aftertaste. Worth a try and does have a fairly strong flavor for relatively modest alcohol content, but the mouth feel comes off weak.

Dark brown with a small head. Strong aroma of sweet malt. Rich flavour of madeira, caramel and fruit with a restrained hop balance. A very characterful beer.

From bottle. Fruity rich aroma. Syrupy feel. Dark ruby red colour, thin brown bread head. Chocolate malt flavour, smooth yet a bitter finish. Very good quality ale.

Pours clear reddish-mahogony in color with a creamy tan head and remarkable lacing. Aroma is vinous. Flavour is malty with notes of alcohol and plumbs, and has a resemblance of wine or sherry, which creates a ’warm’ feeling. Finish is bitter with metallic notes.
