Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Marketed in the United States as Olde Suffolk.
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.

Pours light ruby brown into an English pint. Offwhite head with medium staying power subsides to skim surface. Dark caramel and oak aromas and flavors. Lasting bitter finish.

Dark ruby colour, creamy head. Dark honey aroma (chestnut), hop, madera wine. The flavour meets the aroma, with a bit of acid and toasted notes. Medium thick palate. Very persitent end of grapefruit and rhubarb. Sure I will search it again for a relaxed drink.

Bottle from Waitrose. Dark red with an off-white head. Oaky, vinous aroma with some dark fruity. Flavour of caramel with an oaky, acidic finish. Good.

Pours a very dark ruby red body with a cream layer of foam on top. Aromi is sweet and malty. Flavor has strong notes of roasted malt in the beginging. The oak take over quikly and you get the oak and vannilla tones and maybe some honey. Little notes of dried fruit and caramel. The overall flavor reminded me of a porter. Palate is medium thick and sweet, the carbonation is little sticky at the beging but gets smoother fast.

Bottle 500ml. Aromas of oak, malts and fruit here. Pours a brown with a reddish hue. Flavours are interesting, with very little in the way of hops coming through. Certainly dried fruit and burnt toffee but also a hint of port. Slightly sweet. Medium body. Pleasant enough and certainly a drinkable pint. The Best GK I’ve had to date.

bottle. color is deep red brown, really a very pretty amber hue overall. aroma is sweetish with some cola notes along with some caramel and a little toffee. Creamy tan head pours about three fingers high, but settle to about a quarter of an inch. this beer has a complex flavor that is quite unique. An initiall slight sourness is overcome by a rich caramel and toffee sweetness with some light roasted malt bitterness on the finish. very distinctly english ale.

Not bad. Apparently it needs to warm fairly well before sampling. Too much caramel in the flavour for me, but a subtle hop backbone carried it through.
