Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Marketed in the United States as Olde Suffolk.
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.

Brown cola colored beer with small beige head. Wonderful aroma of port and fruit with a touch of allspice. Rich, mouth filling flavors, the port again, oak barrel, tannins, honey, wildflower hops. Nice feel and good bitter finish. Quite a nice find! Definitely one I will seek out again!

This is a cool beer to pour. The foam mixes with the body to make for a creamy appearance. The aroma is malty and dark fruit. Mouth feel is smooth as silk and feels great. Flavor is complex featuring malt, alcohol, wood, dark fruit, bitterness, caramel and some sherry. What a nice beer!

Bottle. Pour is clear amber with some garnet with a decent light tan head. Aroma was faint, but some malt to it. Taste is sweet malt, some plum fruit taste and really nice bitterness in the finish. As this warms, the aroma opens up a bit. Overall a very nice beer.

Amber of color with a beige head. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, plums and almost no hops. The flavor is some sweet with notes of caramel and dark fruit. Notes of port or sherry.

500 ml bottle - pours a rich mahogany with red highlights. Aroma of vanilla, very sweet malt, some light English hopping, plums and toffee. Flavour is a little bit of a letdown after this very nice aroma - more muted, with a strange bitterness and an almost astringent quality. Fairly thin in the mouth and a very short finish. Good, certainly, but a touch overrated, perhaps.

Tasted 2007-03-10. Fresh bottle, 50cl. Dark red-brown colour with fast disappearing head. Nice, sweet aroma. Honey? Taste is wonderfull!! Nothing like any beer I’ve tasted before. Initially very sweet, but then bitter in the aftertaste. Very interesting. Fruity and spicy. I like it!

Poured from the bottle to a dark brown with a ruby red tint. Aroma was a little faint, but what was there was a pleasant malty dark fruit, mostly grapes and cherries. Flavor was more of the dark fruit, and mouthfeel was carbonated and a bit tangy. As the beer warmed, the alcohol became a little more noticeable in both the aroma and flavor, which all led to a smooth, warming finish.
